Let's agree the media ganged up on Buchanan for the moment. Even beyond that, most of the attendees, dignitaries and others felt Buchanan's speech did more harm than good. Even many of those who defended him then as his personality and proclivities became more well known, they too have began to distance themselves from him.

Keyes will likely do the same. High profile convention and a high profile race. Dr. Keyes has many good qualities. He also is an egotist. Egotists don't know when to speek up and when to be quiet.

I listened to a radio "debate in the primaries, with McCain, Bush and Keyes.

For clarity, knowledge of the issues, being on the correct side of the issues, Keyes was the hands down winner.

For the record, I didn't like Buchanan...never have. I thought his statements were essentially correct, but delivered poorly - but I've never been a Buchanan supporter on any level.

Even so, though I think Keyes would state the case more eloquently, I expect the press would give him the same reaction. In fact, I'm guessing they are up to their orifices in past Keyes' speeches right now looking for "outrageous" statements to report on him. the morning papers should be an interesting read.
