I will certainly concede the possibility that you are correct, but at the same time one HAS to ask "Must it ever be thus?"
Is it not at least a noble goal to aspire to break that hammerlock? Would it not be better for both parties and most of all better for those blacks if, in fact, they were "in play" on every election cycle?
I don't have any illusions about knowing what goes on in Cook County - though I suspect I could get some handy "Cliffs Notes" by checking out nearby Memphis - and I don't profess to.
What I do know is that we can do better than just throwing our hands up and saying there's nothing to do about it. The sea-change HAS to start somewhere. Perhaps it will be here, perhaps not, but the attempt must be made.
At one time, there was still a rather largish segment of elite black GOPers there and I'm talking about during and after JFK (the real one)was running, elected, and killed. That hasn't been the case in decades.
There is what I call "THE SECOND CITY COMPLEX",which has a deep and abiding hold on ALL Chicagoans,no matter their races, sex, religion, ethnicity.THEY HATE "OUTSIDERS"! They especially HATE (and yes,I do mean HATE!)people who move there from the East Coast. No,it isn't everyone, but it certainly afflicts most.Keyes, invited in or not, running for the Senate, against a man who has lived and worked in Ill. for 12 years,is a HUGE problem.Being a black Conservative,is as bad,if not worse.
I have simply attempted to lay out some facts,in the face of so much undue delusional prose. This is hardly "defeatism","cheer-leading for Obama",nor any of the other things thrown out on this thread by fervent Keyes supporters.
Flame throwers, who talk down to their audience,do NOT convert anyone.
