WASHINGTON (AP) Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service ''dishonest and dishonorable'' and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well.

''It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me,'' McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press, referring to his bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush.

John Edwards suggested we judge Kerry by talking to the vets. Is that now a 'no-no'?

And now that those who DID serve with him, are speaking out against him, McRINO blames it on the White House? That's like a bully who picks a fight, and then runs away...and you know that the majority of the media is not going to help.

I wouldn't vote for President any current or former Senator who is also a Vietnam Vet. They all are nutty.

Kery is nutty, McCain is nutty, Former Senator Kerrey of Nebraska is nutty, Hagel (who told Richard Perle before the war that perhaps Perle should "lead the troops into Baghdad") is nutty and disrespectful of the President's civilian advisors.

And don't get me started on former Senator Max Clelland!

don't think you're correct here?? I think that Sen. McCain has defended the decision to go to War against Sadam and the President's reasons.

Don't knock McCain. If it weren't for his dumbass campaign finance reform illusion, it would be harder for the Bush campaign to completely dissassociate itself with the ad. Now they can. And McCain commenting about it just keeps the issue at the forefront, and shows how worthless his CFR really is. And in the meantime, the Kerry campaign finds itself off message responding to an attack at the very core (the only core) of Kerry's campaign theme. I'm not sure this ad will help Bush, but I very much doubt it will help Kerry.

Very astute. This is exactly the type of issue that the MSM hates, because they can no longer control communication in this country due to talk radio, internet, FOX news, etc.

McCain or no McCain crappola, this is still a net minus for Kerry.

bump

I'm convinced now more than ever, that McCain comes out on these controversial issues just for the face time. He's a publicity hound who loves having the press fawn all over him.

Actually he did, but it still doesn't clear up the issue invovling Kerry's actions in Vietnam. I mean you have every officer who was there against him. That says volumes to me.

Politics aside (an imposiible situation, I know) What else could they do?

Stand aside while a man runs for President of The United States of America on a lie he has perpetuated? He is not a saint because he served his country. I could not even fault him (well, maybe a little bit) if he got there, got scared, and said "I want to go home, I cannot take it."

The measure of his character as a veteran are his actions while serving. He opened the door to scrutiny by focusing on his short stint in Viet Nam instead of his Senate record. He chose to ignore his actions after Viet Nam and has yet to address the effect it had on our Vets who are still suffering today because of how we, as a nation let them down when they returned home.

If John McCain or the Mainstream Press tries to silence these men and all of the other veterans who speak out, then we as a nation will have let these men down again.

I can remember the hate in the air as if it was yesterday. Soldiers were baby-killers, cops were pigs, and Republican Conservatives were right there next to Satan. My question to Viet Nam Vets on another thread bears repeating here:

Looking back to that time in your life, the day you came home, What would you have given to hear a spontaneous round of applause in an airport just because you served?

How much easier ould it have been for you to put your Viet Nam service to rest had the nation welcomed you back as heros instead of scum?

Thank you for serving our country during some of the most difficult days our nation has faced.

I served a year in RVN. I worked with wounded and had questions about Kerry's medals. When I had patients with 3 wounds getting one Purple Heart I wondered how in heck Kerry could get 3 for his visits to clinics. Kerry certainly kicked the crust off his history in RVN. I do not think the Democrats had any idea there are so many of us that just plain canot stand the SOB because we consider him a weasel and disgusting turncoat puke?

If this group has the $$$, the MSM can ignore the story but cannot stop the group from running ads.

The MSM is losing its grip, losing control. A real pity.

Plus, this takes Kerry totally off-message. The ineptness of his campaign to date demonstrates that his people are out of their league and over their head.

Conason at Slate.com has already claimed that there is big RNC money and RNC operatives behind the ad.

Sorry Sen. McCain, but just as in a courtroom, Kerry opened up that line of questioning with the performance on his last day of the convention. Where is your outrage at what Kerry is doing with his Vietnam record?

I just called McCain's Washington DC office and accused him of being a sunshine patriot for Bush.

Where was he when Bush was being bashed about HIS national guard service?

McCain has lost it again. So Kerry actually hires Moveon people who compare the President to Hitler and its okay but now Bush must run around and defend John Kerry. I think he believes no one can talk about Vietnam but him
