I didn't know Obama grew up in Hawaii.

So it's not like Keyes is running against a 5th generation native.

But still, Keyes will have a heck of a time getting past the "He's not one of us crowd." He'll get the far right vote and probably those who voted for him for president, but I expect this to be a Durbin/Durkin or a Lenin/Rocky type of race. I really hope I am wrong.

I think Keyes could get the white Conservative vote which might be found in rural Illinois, he could get the black Conservative vote --- many blacks are not pro-abortion. Keyes is an American black and Obama is not. Obama is American on his mother's side which was white so I don't see how the black vote automatically goes to Obama.

Even if it's a Levin/Rocky type race, wasn't that better than a Levin/Joe Schwarz race? If Keyes doesn't run, chances are that a typical Illinois RINO would run and surely lose, and we would have watered down the GOP even more (and missed the opportunity to allow a true conservative like Keyes to have a forum to speak to moderate-to-conservative blacks and whites about how the Democrat Party betrays their principles.
