I came up with another way to eliminate the IRS, if you're interested.
Every single state has a revenue collecting agency. Put states in charge of collecting federal taxes & have states cut a check to the feds.
Picture how this would shift power in the country. If there's a downside to this proposal, I'd love to hear it.
Yeah, they're paying it now. At least with the Fair Tax they will HAVE A CHOICE to pay it or not. It will also drive down the price of whatever they are buying.
Which is what the FairTax does.
Your plan doesn't address what might be the least invasive and most economically efficient way for the states to collect said tax.
Exac!
Every single state has a revenue collecting agency. Put states in charge of collecting federal taxes & have states cut a check to the feds.
H.R.25, S.1493
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.Refer for additional information: http://www.fairtax.org & http://www.salestax.org
My response is merely a summary of 5+ years of exposing the substantive flaws of the NRST proposal on this forum.
I guage my effectiveness by the magnitude with which the NRST shills respond with hostile personal attacks. I consider it to be a badge-of-honor that they consider my truthful perspective to be a threat to their deceptive snake-oil.
Your rhetoric is unsupported by any facts.
It is just demagogic ranting.
You just make stuff up as you go along.
Your credibility on this issue is zilch.
Not every man woman and child living in the US will get the compensation (actually an allowance, they can spend it or keep it)for taxes imputed to be paid up to the poverty level, only LEGAL US residents, which means millions of illegals now paying little will pay more.Uh. Sorry. I thought most people would assume it applied to legal residents.
Only some? Coprorate taxation is built into the price of everything you buy. It is capitalized into the price of every product, as one of several obvious costs-of-doing-business. Taxes impose costs on businesses. All such costs are passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices. A company exisits to make a profit above what its costs of doing business are.
You don't own a business, do you?
May I suggest you consult a basic high school level economics text before you reply to this post.
Positive alternatives?
1. Why do I need to know my state sales tax?
Again you taking this discussion to an irrelevant point.
2. Yes, the bulk is hidden from consumers.
You have no idea how much tax is part of producing. marketing and selling a gallon of milk. But many studies over many many years show the taxes on consumer goods are more than 50%. Here is one study:
http://www.cato.org/pubs/briefs/bp-015.html
3. Your last point is not coherent. From the consumer's point of view, the true taxes in purchases are unknown. And respected studies show the true tax rate to be the bulk of the product price.
When they get this done, this administration will go down as one of the greatest in history.
You don't see all the CORPORATE TAXES you pay on that product you buy ! And think how many CORPORATIONS your purchases went through to get into your hands !
"And that certainly means a lot more businesses in Texas will have to start collecting sales taxes when they don't have to now and they will have sales tax compliance costs that they don't currently have."
You support retaining the current system because of concerns about compliance costs? You can't be serious! Even for you, YN, this is a classic.
FYI, any business that can eliminate payroll taxes, eliminate corporate income taxes and substitute a sales tax for those is MILES ahead in reducing their administrative burden and compliance costs.
That doesn't even count the fact that, under the FairTax, businesses get to keep a small percentage of the tax collected to defray their administrative costs.
I know you are getting desperate to stop this thing, YN, but you are going to have to do better than that.
Amen. GW will be a hero.
Let's make April 15th a national holiday in his honor!
;-)
You obviously have never worked on the accounting side of a business or you work for the underground economy.
Put states in charge of collecting federal taxes & have states cut a check to the feds. The downside is it puts states in charge of collecting federal taxes. Currently a state keeps a full dollar of every dollar they collect from sales tax evaders. They would keep 1/4 of a penny for every dollar they collect from evaders of the NRST. Not much incentive to go after evaders.
Picture how this would shift power in the country. If there's a downside to this proposal, I'd love to hear it.
Gets my vote for most lucid statement on this thread to date!

Originally posted on Sunday, March 19, 2000, I offered a postive alternative entitled A Proposal to Abolish the Corporate Income Tax. And ever since, I've consistant and frequently repeated the same proposal: implement a relative-low, flat-rate "revenue tariff" on ALL imported goods (as originally favored by our Founding Fathers) AND stimulate investment in domestic production with a corresponding reduction of the corporate income tax rate.
Go ahead and mimic a chirping cricket if you want,
as far as I'm concerned, it's just another example of your disengenous beligerance.
