Obama is an intelligent, well-spoken candidate. Mike Ditka would have gotten his ass kicked.

Possibly. It's also possible that the US will implode like the Soviet Union did before that happens.

If how mellifluous a candidate speaks is your standard, then Mario Cuomo would have kicked George Pataki's butt in 1994.

Maybe....but does anyone know where this guy stands on the issues?

P.S. What I read before Ditka said "No thanks," is that he had an excellent chance of beating Obama.

The first black (or woman) president will NOT be a liberal.

"The issues don't really matter," says one party fund-raiser. "This guy is the dream candidate."

Just another indication that the Democrat Party is the Party of September 10th.

He needs to change his name to something else, anything that doesn't rhyme with Osama.

The first black President will probably be Condi. Or, at least that's my hope.

Obama is a talented speaker. I wouldn't say he's a dumb guy, but he hasn't said or done anything that marks him as particularly intelligent.

He's the same old urban Democrat socialist - his views and policies are nothing new or exciting.

Ditka is a hero to many Illinois sports fans. He is a plain, direct speaker with plenty of live television experience and can clearly hold his own with Obama. And I wouldn't be so rash as to say that he was not as intelligent as Obama - constantly portraying yourself as intelligent does not equal true intelligence.

Most importantly, Ditka can appeal to Reagan Democrats who love his old team as well as Republicans of every stripe statewide.

There was a day when people said that Julian Bond would one day be President.

Neither he or Obama will ever occupy that seat.

Americans will vote for a black man, but not if he's a socialist.

Good point.

Cuomo was shocked, absolutely floored, when he learned that he couldn't bullsh*t his way into yet another term.

It would be nice if someone would talk about this guy without saying "articulate" or "well spoken". People say it like its a surprise or something. Its annoying that people feel the need to mention how "articulate" black candidate are.

"Will Barack Obama be Our Second “Black” President?"

Not with a name like that! Time for a reality check, Political Correctness aside. Not in this day and age will someone with a name like that ever be considered for the Presidency of the United States of America, Republican OR Democrat.

After all is said and done, the real first black president will be a conservative Republican. I'm not sure if he is even old enough to run for office (whoever he is...) but the fact of the matter is that black Democrats are too race-based. That is, they have one issue, not enough to get any kind of nomination in the party let alone be elected by voters nationwide.

A black Conservative will be more readily accepted by a voting majority but not right now. Black conservatives, while still vary much in tune with black issues, have a much broader knowledge of national and global issues (IMHO) which effect a wider range of the population. The reason I say "not right now" is because the venom the Democrats are spewing in today's political climate is aimed at all things Republican, black, white or hispanic. The Dems feel like they are immuned to any kind of "racist charge" and will say anything to make sure a Democrat wins. And to make matters worse, they can say anything racist they want and today's press will help them spin it into a Republican Racism issue.

The great Bob Grant deserves substantial credit for Mario's unemployment.

Yes, Obama is as sleazy a scumbag as I have ever seen.
Nearly Clintonesque.
