Clinton Casts Kerry As Patriot in Vietnam Clinton Criticizes Self, Bush and Cheney As He Casts Kerry As Patriot in Vietnam War and Congress

The Associated Press

BOSTON July 26, 2004 — Former President Clinton, in a rare moment of self-criticism, said on Monday night that he, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney avoided the Vietnam War while John Kerry said, "Send me." Casting the Massachusetts senator as a patriot in war and in Congress, a decorated veteran ready to be a wartime president, Clinton said on the opening day of the Democratic National Convention, "Their opponents will tell you to be afraid of John Kerry and John Edwards, because they won't stand up to the terrorists. Don't you believe it."

With polls showing Bush clinging to a lead over Kerry on the question of fighting terrorism, Clinton sought to assure voters that the nominee-in-waiting's first priority would be keeping America safe. "Remember the scripture," he said, "Be not afraid."

Kerry advisers believe Bush's best chance at winning re-election is convincing voters that the Democratic ticket would be soft on terrorism. Polls show the race tight, with Kerry favored by voters on domestic issues and the public split on who would do the best job in the war on Iraq.

Clinton left office tainted by impeachment and last-minute pardons, but polls show his approval rating is higher than that of either Kerry or Bush. Kerry strategists consider him a living symbol of better economic times, the strongest voice for the Democratic Party.

No, Slick, we should be very afraid. Kerry gave aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war. Benedict Arnold was a war hero, too, before he turned traitor. The only difference is that Arnold was hanged and Kerry is running for POTUS.

Best 4 months Kerry ever invested. Marriage time notwithstanding.

I get your meaning; is four months for four purple hearts better than 2 months for a billion bucks?

Anyone see the real Irony here with Clinton lauding Kerry's service in Vietnam when he himself did everything he could, including circumventing the law, to avoid service.
You talk about Hypocrisy runamuck here it is.

Seems appropriate that he woule attempt to make Kerry look like a "patriot." There is a historical precident. Wasn't Benedict Arnold considered a great patriot before he became a traitor?

The Vietnam portion of Clinton's speech was truly bizzare. It just shows how out of touch with reality these lying Rats are.

Clinton just wanted to get a dig in at Bush and Cheney.

Kerry wanted to go to Vietnam, get in and out as fast as he could, get some medals, and further his quest at being JFK.

After watching tonight's democratic convention I was relieved that the possibility of a democratic victory in November is STILL not going to happen. Unless brainwashing still works.

BTW, I thought Jim Jones Jr. was going to speak tonight?

I was also very surprised the current flick, Manchurian Candidate, was not hyped more during the commercial breaks?

I won't say the DEM/C was a Cult, but very Cultish. Not alot of concrete facts, just alot of BS.

Very scary stuff to possibly lead the USA.

I was having a hard time believing the SEND ME statement so I had to do some searching, on this website it looks like Kerry wanted to be sent to Paris on a Deferment rather than Vietnam.....

What ticks me off is that we (Vitenam Vets) had to endure the crap that Fonda and Kerry dished out to make us all look like crazed maniacs back in the 70's.

Only to have the same mentality and cons creep back into the limelight and play their game all over again. This time he's a hero, and someone else (Bush) didn't serve his country.

What a bunch of balogne b.s.!

I resented those jerks back in 70 and 71 and that resentment has never stopped. Not because I won't let it stop, but because they keep rearing their ugly heads!

American's need to wake up and realize that John Kerry is a self-serving, self-centered lying sack of sh!t.

(Sorry moderator, this guy and his types need to be identified for what they are.) Besides I am not in the mood to sit back and keep quiet anymore. I have no guilt for my service in Vietnam, I don't like people who use other people, especially DAV's and those whose names are on "The Wall".

Tut tut, you greatly exaggerate-- it was only 3 purple hearts and a paltry 1.7 billion.

No need to, the whole convention was a commercial for the Manchurian Candidate.

okay, clintoon, was an "impoverished student on scholarship" when "somebody paid his way to moscow to ecucate him in how to organize protests against the Troops in Viet Nam.

Kerry was holding a commission as a Naval Officer in the U.S. avy Reseverve (without a job), and "somebody" pays his way (twice) to Paris to collaborate with th=e Viet Cong and the North Vietmanese (whose flag he carried).

So tell me why he is not in PRISON, like "Tohyo Rose, and Lord Haw Haw"?
