TOWN OF CHESHIRE SPONSORS ANTI-CHRISTIAN PLAY; CONCERNED CITIZENS PROTEST

The Town of Cheshire is sponsoring a play which is an open attack upon the Christian faith. Joe Calarco's Shakespeare's R & J begins performances tonight and plays through Saturday evening.
The homoerotic and anti-religious adaptation of Shakespeare's classic will have four young women dressed up as Catholic school girls who break free from the oppression of their Catholic boarding school through homosexual experimentation. Christianity plays the part of the villain in the play and no opportunity is lost to attack the "repressiveness" of the Christian faith.
Concerned citizens will be staging a protest at 7:00 pm on Saturday evening outside of Cheshire Park on Route 10 (across from the prison). If you are interested in taking part in the protest please contact Lynne O'Luanaigh (203)250-7329 or LYNNEOL@COX.NET.
Even if you are not a Cheshire resident, the town council needs to hear from you!
We are receiving more and more reports of towns supporting these sort of attacks on people of faith and we need to stand together to let them know that this not what our tax dollars should be used for! E-MAIL AND CALL THESE TOWN OFFICIALS AND LET THEM KNOW THAT OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT ENDORSE ANTI-RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY!

Don't you dare lecture me on tolerance. Go back and read post #26 where I am called a Bigot, but a supposedly tolerant person! The director of the play that you hoist so high, decide because I wanted to make a statement to defend someones right to free speech. (No I don't condone tarring and feathering, or anything like that, but till they commit the act it is not a crime.)
I have come into this thread with an open mind. I am a spiritual person, I don't attend church, but Still the poster in # 26 decided to lump me into the group of far right wing Christians. Was that fair?
Look I hate to burst your bubble by the idea of a Utopian world where everyone loves each other and there is tolerance for all people and races, as much as I would love to see it happen, is a NOT REALITY! It will never be reality if the human race has not gotten it right in the past several thousand years it ain't gonna happen now.
People will believe what they are going to believe, YOU or STACY_DONOVANRNJ will not change that. Get over the concept that you can change the world.
Do what I do when I got to my support the troop rallies. When I see a peacenik approaching me in wearing the uniform that I served this country in, and the call me many names that are definitely not example of tolerance, I ignore them, either that or start questioning them on the history of what they are protesting.
Look it is simple as this. This is American everyone has a right to speak there mind no matter how stupid or dumb or intelligent it may sound.
The simple fact is when people choose to speak (for the point getting impaired here is my big point.) There is a consequence for the speech that you make. If someone makes a threatening statement to tar and feather you, report it to the police, that is why they are there, they can decide then if a crime has actually been committed. But if you choose to support in art that is controversial (whether or not you believe it is, others may think it is. Not everyone thinks like you, nor should they.) Expect people to voice their opinions as a consequence of you voicing yours. That is the plain and simple fact about life in America.
This country is a great place. I have put my life on the line for this country and for the citizens of this country. I did it to defend the constitution, and protect all the citizens of this country, even the ones I disagree with. Why? Because no matter the view point I feel that everyones voice has a right to be heard.
So as I close refer back to the top of the post. Tolerance is a word and words have meaning. If you want tolerance start with the people you support. I am not a bigot and I resent the fact that this director thinks she had the right to determine that. You on the other hand. I hope that you enjoy life. I think you take thinks too seriously.I have a simple quote that I think helps when you look at the extremes on either side of the political spectrum.
"Don't take life to seriously, you'll never get out alive."
Elbert Hubbard
If any of this came across a being terse, it should have.
I don't take particularly well to being preached to, and I am sure neither do you.
As for the reactions and posting that you got here, think about where your posting... this is a conservative web sight, not an ultra right wing organization, you may view it as that, but I think the fair share of folks out here I don't think fit into that description. Guess what we don't like to be lumped into the great "them" either, but you have done so anyway. The difference is when it comes right down to it. As much as I am happy that you are free to give your opinion and am glad that you choose to voice it. I could really care less about the play or anyone hang ups or praise they have for it.
Broadway and London theater are art I have been to both and I have enjoyed both mainstream works and off Broadway productions and I am season subscriber to the off Broadway series here in Arizona. So I really do appreciate the arts, and theater. But there is also alot of crap out there to that is called art. Most crap that I have seen has been done in the community theater by directors with there own adaptation on a theme. Art has its critics some are very vocal. It happens get over it.
Thanks for visiting. Enjoy the scenery.

Well, at the risk of responding in "conservative" setting, I feel compelled to clear up a couple of things. I have one opinion about all this and that is that theatre is meant to be performed and seen. Without seeing a work of theatre, no one can make a judgment about it. Period. Of course, you are free to spew all kinds of hate and ignorance here or anywhere for that matter, but it just doesn't mean very much. When I see how the conversation digressed after my note yesterday to attacking the town of Cheshire, to "college kids who should be on Ritalin", "Constipation State", to "Nutball State," I am really sad. You are preaching to your choir and you are seething with petty hatred. I want nothing to do with that.
To Its Our Time Now: Just to set you straight, I said what I said about "your God" because the one I believe in does not condone hatred, nor do I believe in any Deity that would condemn homosexuals. So, game definitely not over.
To Americanwolf, I just reread everything, as you suggested and nowhere in my other note did I call you a bigot. Nowhere. Nowhere in my note did I say you were generally uneducated. I simply said, and I stand by it, that anyone commenting on this play, without seeing it and/or reading it, is making an uneducated judgment. Yes, unfortunately you are correct, people are free to make uneducated comments; however, they simply carry no weight. I do admit that when I said "So, you absolutely have a right to your opinion, albeit (typo last time Its Our Time Now) an uneducated one." I was unclear. I meant "you" as in all of you who write here and who are bashing what you have not seen. I thought I was being clear because I had gone on to talk about the website in general.
Also to Americanwolf, you accuse me of calling you uneducated when I do not even know you. Well, you do not even know me, yet you felt free to say I must be some college kid who should be on Ritalin. You assume because I did not respond that I was fearful or that I had nothing to say so you insult me. The fact of the matter is that I have a job; I have things to do; I have a life. I do not spend my entire day on line. Hummm . . . it would seem that you have now jumped to conclusions without having any knowledge of me. You should practice what you preach.
To all:
Americanwolf is correct in saying that it is unlikely that I will change minds in this forum; however, it is my show that many are attacking. Thus I felt compelled to respond regardless of my ability to affect change. That said, I disagree with Americanwolf's suggestion that a person cannot change the world. One person, joined with others can change the world and art can definitely affect change. The theatre can indeed be a teaching tool and can inspire thought. That is why I am a theatre artist and always will be. Unfortunately, some seem determined to close the door on any theatre/art that is not in line with their own thinking and that is what is inexcusable.

"To Its Our Time Now: Just to set you straight, I said what I said about "your God" because the one I believe in does not condone hatred, nor do I believe in any Deity that would condemn homosexuals."
Homosexuals have given in to their own self hatred and are in denial as to their true humanity, despite their assertions to the contrary. They are as addicted to their form of raw pleasure as alcoholics are to booze and even their patterns of rationalization of their behaviour are the same as alcoholics. They are addicted to their own narcissism and the worship of themselves as gods, hence their intense attacks on Christianity that would destroy that image in and of themselves!
God indeed may not condone hatred and he certainly didn't countenance the inner defeat and self hatred of all sinners including homosexuals, hence the death of his Son and the call to REPENTANCE AND RENEWAL OF THE INNEER MAN! Their refusal to acknowledge the power of the cross over their sin leaves them under condemnation; God has not pointed his finger and condemned homosexuals...they have done that to them-selves!

"Homosexuals have given in to their own self hatred and are in denial as to their true humanity."
How do you know what is the 'true humanity' of another? Could it be that-dare I say it?-someone's is different than what YOU think is true humanity? Why must you and others constantly degrade someone just because their lifestyle is different than yours? This isn't Stepford Wives, so sorry to say.
Before you start complaing to me that it is stated in the Bible that homosexuality is wrong, maybe you should consider this: How do you know that God was the one who decided what the Bible should say? Is it not fact, that about FORTY different people had put their own two cents into the Bible? Does it say "THIS WAS ENTIRELY WRITTEN BY GOD"?

This is exactly the kind of hatred and bias that I mentioned I wanted no part of. I said what I had to say regarding my play specifically and theatre in general. Therefore I have said all I have to say. All of you keep on preaching to your choir. I for one do not have the time nor the energy to expend on this much hatred and intolerance.

I don't think the bloviating Liberals have any profound enough wisdom that can change in 40 years what has been among the accepted truths spanning 4000 years. These "40" or so men existed at times and observed civilizations rising and falling, and knew the conditions of the times. If you scoff at divine inspiration that is up to you...but these men lived in the times thru which the books of the Bible were formed and were influenced by. They knew what was going on in their world at the time of their "Inspired writings" and why the Biblical truths they were writing about "mattered" not just for their day but for all men everywhere for all time!
The Mosaic codes were formed for a reason, influenced by the events of the day certainly as a response to those events. Perhaps they saw what happened to men and societies who violated those codes and of the blessings that flowed from the adherance to them. Moses stated after he finished the reading of the Laws that he had set before Israel "blessings and Cursings" and listed the benefits that occured when God was obeyed and the cursings that followed when he wqs not obeyed.
Even if you reject the spirituality of the Bible, one can empirically judge what happens to a society when that which is traditionaly "good" is rejected for that which is "evil". Hundreds of thousands of homosexuals have received in themselves the effects of their disregard for that which is "good", with the staggering social costs being born by the rest of us.
The anti-cigarette lawyers would have done well to sue the pro-homosexual lobby for the profound health and social costs that that particular activity has cost our society. Indeed perhaps a per capita tax should be levied on avowed homosexuals so their health costs can be recouped by cash starved Liberal states.(>sarcastic snort!)

You really don't get it do you...rather than address the points regarding Homosexuals denial of their own humanity and design and their own self entrapment in a web of narcissistic self deceit...you choose to call me a hater and intolerant. Then again that is what rationalizers of evil do...whether it be drugs, alcohol, sex of all kinds, money grabbing..or dare I say it lovers of power! The arguement gets shifted to a personal attack, (like a deflected scalpel, the offered surgery is never allowed to cut out the cancer!)
Of a truth Proverbs comes to mind..."Rebuke a wise man and he will love you for it, rebuke a fool and you gather to your-self scorn".
Which shoe do you wear?

The state that's kicking out the last pro-Israel Democrat Senator.
Well, it does seem that the more the Islamics threaten us, the more we take it out on the Christians.
