And there would be no illegals there if immigration enforcement were real. And the people who are not enforcing the immigration laws are currently....the Republicans, who control the Federal government at this point. The logic is rather inescapable.

OK, but as I stated you have to win elections to govern.

Prop 187 comes to mind. California voters passed it, the judges tossed it, and the sheeple shrugged their shoulders and then punished Republicans every since.

It's rather obvious therefore that there in NO political will to do what you are suggesting. I voted for 187, it was a good idea.

Maybe we're just doomed, it's possible, but I refuse to let one issue invalidate all others to the point that I cannot see the difference btwn Reps and Dems when it comes to governing.

Security, defense, and tax policy are core values which I find Reps much more akin to my beliefs.

In 1992 I was opposed to NAFTA and supported Perot. We got Clintoon for 8 years(he won with 43% of the vote), today I'm much more practical.

And as I pointed out, the Republicans control all of the Federal government in a way that the Democrats have not since the 1940's. Immigration control is a Federal responsibility, so it's on them. The Republicans HAVE been elected. Maybe you missed the 1994 "revolution", the 2000 elections, the 2002 midterm elections -- historic because the party in the White House picked up seats. They have all they need, there is no need of a supermajority. Merely the will to enforce.

and then punished Republicans every since

Actually they did nothing of the sort. Pete Wilson came back from being 20 points down by making 187 and illegal immigration his issue. Dan Lungren ran away from it, even tabled the appeal on 187 for 6 months as Attorney General, and tried weakly to pretend that it wasn't that big of a deal. He was intimidated by Art Torres and others calling him a racist. The bit about "Republicans being punished" is nonsense. Lungren lost the race because he was a lousy candidate to begin with, and precisely because he got scared and didn't use illegal immigration. Remember, even the Democrats said they would not obstruct 187. Gray Davis pronounced that "I am not a judge" and that he intended to pursue an appeal of 187 once in office, as his oath of office demanded. He didn't, and people like me made sure he paid for that. The day he tore up 187 in the arbitration service of the 9th Circuit was the day I started working against him pretty much full time.

As far as there being no political will to enforce the immigration laws, that's hilarious. Mr. Muscles was elected pretty much on the single issue of no licenses for illegals after Davis made the Supreme Mistake of signing Cedillo's bill. Everyone wants the illegals gone.

but I refuse to let one issue invalidate all others

All the other issues are irrelevant if a foreign country dictates our policies and uses its own people as an occupying force to try and gain political power. Kick the illegals out, turn back legal immigration to where it was in 1965, change the rules to stop favoring Third Worlders in the issuance of permanent residence visas and the United States has a chance of going back to its Anglo-American roots of individual ownership and government serving the people by being as small as possible. That's real Conservatism. Going back to what worked.

Yesterday two hardliners on immigration won Republican primaries. It was predicted here on this forum by some of the go-along-to-get-alongs that "No challengers would win" in the primaries. Well, they just did. The weaklings who want to run from this issue are going to get trampled, because it's no longer just a California issue. The whole country is engaged now.

As for illegal alien voting in San Francisco, it's going to be like Gavin Newsom doing queer marriages. It will only serve to show people how mad the left really is, and will end up in a court fight that will convince more people to vote to the right. One thing about leftists: they lack moderation. And that, as George Smiley once said, is how we will beat them.
