In a statement issued late Monday, Berger said the removal of those papers was unintentional. But law enforcement sources told CNN that some of the papers he is said to have taken from the National Archives were stuffed into his socks as well as other parts of his clothing.

That allegation drew sharp responses from two of Berger's associates. President Clinton's former spokesman, Joe Lockhart, said Berger "categorically denies that he ever took documents and stuffed them in his socks.

Bill Richardson was on Fox News and made comments that Sandy's behavior is just Sandy's usual disheveled, disorganized self.

Speaking of "security leaks", Bill Richardson, as former Secretary of Energy, shouldn't be out-front in defense of Sandy Berger since his Los Alamos installation was leaking like a sieve during his tenure. We never did get to the bottom of that one (you never do where the Clinton's are involved).

This was deliberate theft of classified material caught on camera. People are going to jail for this.

What do you want to bet that the clerk at the National Archive, in deference to Berger's former position, didn't react to Berger's pilfering & note-taking UNTIL AFTER he/she was asked to account for some missing originals? It also sounds like Berger may have received a courtesy call to "bring the stuff in, and all will be forgotten," but couldn't produce all the goods. This investigation has gone on too long. He needs to be charged with something.

I sure feel a lot safer knowing our national security was in the hands of a "sloppy", "careless" security advisor.

I would expect that some foreign intelligence agency is well aware of Berger's laxness when it comes to security, and they probably have a man on his neighborhood rubbish removal detail. And if they had one then, they still have one now, because former NSA's and CIA directors get called-in from time-to-time to offer-up their recollections on old intelligence assessments.

Actually the DUmmies are all abuzz with Trousergate, but their opinions of its significance differ greatly from ours.

Vast right wing conspiracy theories?

Now that Berger is stepping down from the Kerry campaign, how much do you want to bet that the next spin line will be: Hasn't he suffered enough?"

I've become convinced that he's gotten as far as he is by being a cutthroat. I'm assuming he knows where the bodies are all buried and he's not afraid to leverage it as needed. He's like a behind-the-scenes McCain.

According to this article, Joe Lockhart is advising Berger. He's hurting if this is the best adviser he can get.

Joe Lockhart always struck me as a guy that would fit in with the Soprano family, so maybe it's not such a dumb move.

The Clintons are in "denial mode" and they're good at it. But at the same time, they've hurt John F*ckin' and will do him even more damage if he doesn't get its not his job to win in November. They've made that brutally clear. Now there is no question who knows the Democratic Party, lock, stock and barrel.
