President George W. Bush is a descendant of Edmunde Reade and and Elizabeth Cooke... as is Massachusetts Senator John Kerry. But despite their divergent political backgrounds, the distant cousins boast similar life achievements. Both men graduated from Yale University (within two years of each other) and both are key players in the upcoming 2004 presidential election.
Is that THE John Winthrop?
...and I am related to the first Adam
As the saying goes, you cannot choose your relatives.
You don't say... Really? Key players? LOL!
Those are some serious Yankee bloodlines. Get ready for a very WASP-y election.
Good Grief!
Not with that lifespan. The famous John Winthrop was nearly 100 years earlier.
Larouche is related to Nader!!! amazing.
oh they meant those two other guys...big deal
How about -- Who Cares? Using that standard I could be related to Michael Jordan...
Wait...there are two John Winthrops there. Neither one is the famous one. Must have been a popular name.
I am a little angry to see this crap -- the American people deserve to see the President as a Texan, not a Yankee blueblood. This is a needle jab from the liberal media if ever there was one. No story here.
But W still has a prostate.
If you assume 25-year generations, going back ten generations (250 years) you have 1,024 ancestors. If you go back 500 years, you have over a million ancestors. If you go back 750 years you have over a billion ancestors. It would be amazing if there were no known common ancestors between President Bush and Senator Kerry.
His eldest son, John, known as John Winthrop the younger, born in Groton Manor, 12 Feb., 1606; died in Boston, Mass., 5 April, 1676, after being educated at Bury St. Edmunds school and Trinity college, Dublin, entered the Inner Temple, but, finding the study of law little to his taste, obtained temporary employment in the naval service and sailed under the Duke of Buckingham in the unfortunate expedition for the relief of the Protestants of Rochelle. A little later he made a prolonged tour of Europe, passed some time in Padua, Venice. And Constantinople, returning home in 1629, to find his friends busy with the great Massachusetts enterprise, in which he was soon actively enlisted. In 1631 he followed his father to New England, and he was shortly afterward elected an assistant of the Massachusetts colony, which post he retained for eighteen successive years.
The John Winthrop on top is THE John Winthrop's eldest son.
Does that mean they are both of Jewish background?
Of course not that there is anything wrong with that.
Lighten up. It's not a genealogical hit piece. This is America. Everyone came from somewhere else. It's no secret Bush is a first-generation Texan. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut! I'm descended from English and Scottish Southerners, but I live in Illinois. It's not where you come from, it's where you.
Yes, it is.
