County Prosecutor Endorses Mac Collins for Senate
The True Citizen | July 14, 2004 | Jack & Karen Cox

We are writing to ask Burke County to elect Mac Collins to the U.S. Senate July 20. Only Mac has a 100% pro-life voting record, as reflected in his 100% rating and endorsement from Georgia Right to Life. While Karen worked for his congressional office before our children were born, we came to know him as a leader who always voted to protect the unborn and encouraged our own pro-life efforts as Karen volunteered with the local crisis pregnancy center.

Mac began his now statewide trucking business at the age of 18. The only candidate from rural Georgia, he understands what it takes to make a living and provide for a family. Mac has served on the Butts County Commission and in the General Assembly. Now a 6th term Congressman in Washington, he serves on the Ways and Means Committee and on the Permanent House Select Committee on Intelligence. A wide variety of business and political experience combined with skill in developing legislation and working with other lawmakers to get things done has prepared Mac ideally for service in the Senate. He consults his own advisory committees, consisting of Georgians most familiar with matters like agriculture, defense, and business. By drawing on their knowledge and expertise, he has been able to help create legislation favorable to the needs of Georgia farmers, military personnel and national defense, and businesses and their employees. He has been endorsed by many conservative groups as well as members of the military and agribusiness, sportsmen, and women’s groups.

Mac has always stood for limited government, lower taxation, the right to bear arms, protection of the unborn, and local control of local issues. He is a workhorse, not a show horse, and you will always find him working in the best interests of the people of Georgia. Mac is the only candidate who has been to three events in Burke, and none were fundraisers. He came because of his genuine interest in meeting us and discussing our concerns.

In contrast to Mac’s consistently conservative record, Johnny Isakson has run two campaigns on the abortion rights platform, voting 14 times in favor of pro-abortion legislation, including to allow the abortion pill into the United States. Isakson has received money from and contributed to pro-choice groups. He has never explained his record, and when this issue is up for a vote, he usually comes down on the side of the abortions rights lobby, receiving the National Abortion Rights League’s highest rating among members of his party’s congressional delegation. In May Isakson voted to allow abortion on demand in taxpayer-funded military hospitals overseas.

We are aware there are numerous people locally who know the candidates in this race on a personal basis. However, our votes should be based on convictions and not connections. The issues are too important for this and future generations. Mac Collins is the best candidate to represent the convictions of Burke County. So vote for and elect Mac as our next U.S. Senator on July 20!

Just beat up on Johnny, let's get to a runoff where Cain or Collins can win.

What with Isakson, Kerry, and Edwards, I'm starting to develop a complex about my name....

Exactly. We need ALL Georgia conservatives to go vote for either Herman Cain or Mac Collins so that the pro-abortion Johnny Isakson gets below 50% and is forced into a run-off against the second-place finisher. Whichever of Cain and Collins gets the most votes (I'm pulling for Cain) can then defeat Isakson in the run-off.

Oh, come on now, it's not all bad. There's always John McCain. [cough]

There's no denying that Mac Collins would be a good Senator. His problem is that he's everybody's second choice.

I've read that Isakson is climbing in the polls, and he's currently polling in the mid 40's. He's doing best in the suburban "doughnut counties" that ring around Atlanta. Also, it's possible that some white, urban Atlanta liberals will cross party lines to support Isakson, since they are resigned to a Republican victory in Georgia this year.

If Isakson wins, just watch the media shame the GOP for not voting for Cain. The media will tout how IL is enlightened enough to vote for Obama, but GA is a racist state for supporting Herman Cain.

What do you guys think of the polls? My natural suspicion of liberal media leads me to believe they aren't very reliable. I was at a Party for the President in Augusta Thursday night and saw little support for Isakson. Most people there were for Cain or Collins. I would really be surprised, not to mention extremely disappointed and ready to start a new party!, if Isakson won outright. I keep hearing from some of the higher ups in the Republican party that unity is so important we need to support all Republican candidates (this while they post Isakson signs exclusively in their yard), yet they are totally ignoring that some Republicans, like Isakson, shouldn't be supported because they don't even support the Republican platform.

Glad you all are out there working hard for the good guys. Keep it up!

"I was at a Party for the President in Augusta Thursday night and saw little support for Isakson."

One reason is that you attended a party in outstate Georgia. The core of Isakson's support is in the Atlanta metropolitan area, particularly in the suburban, so-called "doughnut counties" that surround Atlanta. In addition, I expect that some white urban liberals in Atlanta proper will cross over to vote in the G.O.P. primary. This is because a 'Rat victory in this race is unlikely and they view Isakson as the best viable option.
