For decades, many conspiracy theories originated on the political right - from fluoridation is a Communist plot to the Council on Foreign Relations is a front for the creation of one world government to the Clintons being drug dealers and witness killers.
Now the political left is having a go at conspiracies because, as with the right, that keeps theorizers from having to address the real issues or the flaws in their thinking.
Take the latest gathering in Philadelphia of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It resembled an opening act for the Democratic National Convention and revealed how this once-great organization has been seduced by the conspiracy muse.
The NAACP bills itself "nonpartisan" so that it might continue to enjoy the fruits of its tax-exempt status, but the rhetoric from its leaders is outrageously partisan. Coming from the mouths of virtually any other tax-exempt group, the IRS would promptly and properly yank its exemption.

It has become, I'm afraid, the National Association for the Advancement of Crack Pots.
Indirectly?? No, it was a blatant direct hit piece. There was nothing the least bit indirect about it.
Hi ya Joe!!! You little devil.
Bush said something important. He spoke about "the soft bigotry of low expectations in education." Instead of lowering the bar to meet underachievers at their level, Bush called for elevating the underclass to the level of the bar and beyond."The quiet past..." the black vote is just a rubberstamp for the so-called Democratic Party. Nothing any Republican does will sway much of that vote -- for now. Let the independent and conservative groups agitate, agitate, agitate. If they don't succeed however, the result will be less and less of a voice for the black community. If they do succeed, it will be by advocating positions palatable to the rest of America and seeing those positions vindicated by Republican-initiated public policy. The radical fringe minority within a minority will wither away and die.
For his courage, courtesy and frankness, Bush got the James Byrd commercial. No wonder he has refused subsequent invitations to speak to the NAACP. Why endure insults from people who have no intention of voting for you and who do not represent all of black thinking, an increasing amount of which espouses more conservative principles?
The future of black America does not lie in the slogans, tactics and bitterness of the past. Instead, it is in the attitude expressed eloquently and forcefully by Bill Cosby about such issues as parental responsibility and oversight, using proper English and staying in school.
George W. Bush will be reelected by a margin of at least ten per cent
"Of course, the solution to this is simple (and even more correct): eliminate tax-exemptions from ALL organizations."
I think the ULTIMATE solution to this would be to eliminate TAXES from ALL organizations. This would expedite the creation of many anti-NAACP groups, minimizing the influence of the NAACP and all other left wing Trust Funds of whatever stripe!
That latter one isn't a "conspiracy theory". It's a fact.
Hey GFP, just letting the devilish side show.
The NAACP needs to be kept alive as it allows me to have so much fun with my liberal friends. Whenever a discussion turns to race I always refer to" black americans" as colored people. When my liberal friends say that I should not refer to "black americans" as colored, I say that black leaders think of themselves as colored or they would have changed the name of their organization years ago. Always creates a silence in the conversation and usually changes the topic to beer and football. Especially love to use it around my mother in law.
