Ah, I found the Geek Brigade...life is good. :)
I'm one of those that can't play a spellcaster worth a darn in an RPG. Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, four years online playing Everquest and two in Asheron's Call...didn't matter. I was always either the martial artist (AC and Neverwinter) or the big barbarian guy with the biggest honkin' implement of destruction I could find (EQ and Morrowind).
I went through MW the first time with a Nord barbarian, then went back through with a Dunmer custom-class spellcaster/thief type. OK in a fight, lethal from a distance with arrows, and used just enough magic to get himself over tough spots.

Consider yourself pinged. (Pung? I dunno...)
I have semi-fond memories of my poor starting-out assassin...scrambling up on a rock so the big bad rat can't get her, and pinging it with (lots of) arrows. :-)
Morrowind rocks. You're right, its so much easier (and more fun) to go hacknslash. Though, it was fun to play BG2 as a spellcaster, THAT was fun at the final battle where chaos ensued.
