I hope that guy knows what he is talking about. Exaggeration in the effort to get Kerry would destroy their credibility.
"self-inflicted" ? Maybe he wanted out of Vietnam so took that route. That is fairly common in all wars, much more so than the higher ups would have us believe.
Strange, after almost 3 decades in congress Kerry touts his military "service?" which is about the least thing worth high-lighting he has. 3 decades & all he can muster is approx.120 days in 'Nam? What an empty gas bag. I had heard the wounds wouldn't keep a 5 year old off the playground as they were soooo superficial, I always thought they could have been self inflicted but I've never seen that articulated in the media before. I agree, these folks better have strong facts or the "smear machine" will roll over them!
About 3 months ago, there was posted here on FR a story by the attending Naval Physician that treated kerry. He said that 3 of kerry's crew told him the same story of the "self inflicted wound". kerry also bragged to this Doc during his treatment, that he would one day be President!
IMHO, these are hard-cold facts...

The media has already been doing a good job marginalizing John O'Neill, but I think that will end soon. I think these guys are about ready to take off the gloves and get this thing going.
His first wound - while at Cam Rahn Bay - was caused by his firing a 40 mm at a rock close by. He showed up with a small scratch and a tiny piece of shrapnel that resembled that from an American 40 mm grenade launcher. No one reported enemy contact or reported receiving fire.
One that he received in the Delta appeared to be from scratching himself on a wheelhouse projection.
John O'Neill is the man who debated the young John Kerry on the Dick Cavett show in the early 70's. He is extremely credible. He is himself a lawyer and until now has refused to be drawn into public statement or debate about Kerry. I think the fact that Kerry is now running for president has probably galvanized a man who would rather remain private. I was extremely impressed when I watched that debate played on C-Span several months ago. Kerry hates him, or at least it appeared so in that debate, so I can't imagine that he would make a public statement with which Kerry could hang his credibility.
