My wife and daughter were returning from a family reunion. I was waiting at DFW Airport and saw something that We all should do when going to an airport nowadays. Alas I was high fived but next trip I will be prepared.

As I waited for the "girls" I noticed many GIs waiting in the baggage claim area. Then I noticed a couple of older gents, veterans no doubt. They were walking up and down the waiting area passing out candy to the troops.

Next time you go to an airport, bus or train station stop by the store and pick up something for the troops. The deserve it and the gesture itself is worth more than a small snicker!

BTW My daughter observed that the GIs, in Desert fatigues, had to take off their boots for inspection!!!! Go Figger....

I thought it was interesting the other day when I was in Frisch's Restaurant in Huber Heights, OH.

One of the servers was saying that a man she had just served was just back from Iraq and had participated in the capture of Saddam. I called her over and asked about buying him a gift certificate to the restaurant and we did buy one for him.

He had left, but the server said she would be sure he got it. Every one of the servers came to me to thank me for doing it. They had all pitched in together to buy his lunch.

Some people care.
