What a wonderful, uplfting story. "America is great because America is good. But if America ceases to be good, America ceases to be great." ~ de Toqueville

Tahoe,

Okay, that makes sense. Can you tell me what a Corporal and Lance Corporal are in the Marines? We have adopted a couple of Marines, one is a CPL and one is an LCPL. Just curious!

I thought it was interesting the other day when I was in Frisch's Restaurant in Huber Heights, OH.

One of the servers was saying that a man she had just served was just back from Iraq and had participated in the capture of Saddam. I called her over and asked about buying him a gift certificate to the restaurant and we did buy one for him.

He had left, but the server said she would be sure he got it. Every one of the servers came to me to thank me for doing it. They had all pitched in together to buy his lunch.

Some people care.

We're that 'silent majority' that pollsters never ask

I cooperated ONCE with a phone poll. I'll never know the group running the poll, but
I suspect it was The Los Angeles Times or fellow travelers trying to stop the
break-away of the San Fernando Valley.

After that more-than-five-minute surrealistic rapid-fire set of questions...
I'LL NEVER AGAIN allow any polling.
I'll just say, sorry, "I don't do polls. Good Day." Click!!!

Suddenly, one of the first-class passengers stood up, took his boarding pass back to main
cabin. Next thing, the entire first-class section of the plane stood up and gave their
seats for the servicemen and women.

This is also a good "lead by example" story.

Even if their true identities were concealed, I'd pay for an issue of Time/Newsweek/etc.
if they tracked down and interviewed a number of those benefactors.

(Moveon paranoia ON)

Of course you DO know this was nothing more than a convoluted plot by those evil rich people in first class to save their own lily-white butts, right? Those plutocrats were planning all along to use the bodies of the servicepeople in first class as human cushions if the plane had crashed.

(Moveon paranoia OFF)

This reminds me of an advertisement I saw in a WWII-era issue of Life Magazine.
I can't remember the company, but their advert was about "give up your seat to a soldier"
on trains/etc. because you couldn't know how long the traveling soldier had been
without sleep, etc.
Things don't change.

Fact check: this story was originated and produced by KDFW FOX 4 News in Dallas, Texas. Other FOX stations (and some from other networks) are picking up the story in other markets. The story was datelined Frisco (suburb of Dallas) because that's where the reporter was able to interview one of the flight attendants who first tipped the station off on this great story.

Can't you just see one of our rich liberal friends, ensconced comfortably in his leather clad First Class seat, distracted momentarily from his New York Times to glance up at the passing sun-beaten soldier with dusty boots and faded BDU's. The liberal raises the newspaper to hide how his lips curl in disdain. He thinks "Oh, how dreadful, that Army guy could well be one of those Abu Gharib torturers I'm reading about here on Page One. I do hope there aren't too many on this flight."

The liberal almost certainly considers the soldier to be his "social inferior" and probably from a poor white or ghetto "trash" background, to boot.

Since you spent some time in MKE you might appreciate this.

I went to my favorite diner this past Saturday for a late breakfast [located at Lincoln and KK]. I had forgotten about the Southshore Water Frolics, and the streets were blocked off for the parade. So I parked a couple of blocks away, and walked.

After I ordered breakfast, the waitress started telling me a story [they know me pretty well]. At 6:45 that morning, the police came in and said all the cars had to be moved by 7AM.

Now she had just served two guys freshly back from Iraq. Being 78 years young, wearing a flag pin, she said "Oooh, did that piss me off! Here are two guys that were getting shot at for their country and they can't even finish their breakfast!"

So, of course, she goes out in the street and starts yelling at the cops 'who do you think you are'! etc. etc.
The cops asked if it was OK if they moved their cars by 7:30. Fine.

What a great story. I asked if they came there often, and she said they would be there the next day. I gave her money for their breakfast, which fortunately was enough to cover their buddy that came in as well.

An honor and a pleasure. Well worth every penny.

It is an image I will never forget. A Lady that remembers Pearl Harbor running out into the street to protect Her Boys.

Thank You for your service.

God Bless America.
