That does make sense. Unfortunately, I recall reading an article posted here on the TM back in January or February (I think) that one or more of the cold war, suitcase nukes that you're referring to had been stashed in the Hudson River Valley/Catskill Mountain Region.
Bump for later read. BTW there have been numerous posts on this website about suitcase nukes. General consensus is that it takes a very high level of technical expertise and equipment to build and maintain suitcase nukes. It would be difficult for Bin Laden to recondition cold-war era suitcase nukes in a cave in the Pakistani frontier. Based on the recent attempted chem weapons attack in Jordan, it looks like an attack with conventional explosives and chemical weapons is much more of an immediate threat to us.
