it was hard to tell how far they went since typical of FR posters, there's more "gee whiz, we're winning" posts and precious little substantive observations as such on what they were watching.

The main thought that comes to mind is that you have nothing substantive to offer. Only a prsonal attack. One that's about as helpful as the "gee whiz" and "Bush is on fire" postings being discussed.
