Uhh..... well.... I just prefer the taste Diet Coke. I really dislike regular Coke, in fact.

This comes as no surprise to me. Next time you're in the grocery store, take note of the people who buy mass quantities of soft drinks (several 2-liter bottles, or several 6-packs, or whatever); it seems to make no difference whether the drinks in question are sweetened with sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, or artificial sweeteners -- odds are, the buyer is fat.

Not usually the case where I live. I've never noticed any patterns with those who buys lots of soda.

I've never liked artificial sweeteners because of their taste, and sugar is only 16 calories per teaspoon, so what's the big deal?

Most sugared items have well more than a teaspoon of sugar. Take a can of regular soda for example -- roughly 150 calories per 8 oz., or 225 calories for the can, compared to 0 for the diet version of the same drink. That corresponds to 14+ teaspoons of sugar (nearly 5 Tbl., more than 1/4 cup) in the drink.

The other issue is what sugar does to your blood chemistry. Pure sugars provide a blood-sugar spike, which leads to cravings for more food, especially sugary foods.

And even though it's diet, I really, really like Fresca. It's about the only good tasting grapefruit-flavored soft drink out there. And it doesn't have a diet taste.
