This goes far beyond the borders of California my friend.

President's Remarks
Remarks by the President on Cinco de Mayo The East Room
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all for coming. Thanks for being here. Thank you, all. Please be seated. Sintese. (Laughter.) Bienvenidos. Welcome to the Casa Blanca. This is the people's house, and we're glad you're here to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Laura and I are thrilled so many came today. We're pleased to celebrate this important day with you.

It's my opinon that our leaders should be the first to set the example, that celebrating foreign holidays in our White House should also be discouraged.
I'm sure it does. But things usually get started in CA and move east. My email of it to friends said that.
As far as the President acknowledging them, well, some of it has to be done. Of course it should not be like our countries traditional holiday celebrations. But you won't see this WH do what the CA legislature did.
Now a Kerry/Clinton WH might be a totally different story, on the surface and in the actual house.
