(California) Democrats Block Independence Day Celebration
Sacramento Union ^ | 7/2/2004 | John Campbell (CA Assemblyman)

Posted on 07/02/2004 2:26:37 PM PDT by mkj6080

In each of the 4 years that I have been a member of the state Assembly, we have had many "celebrations" on the Assembly floor. These "celebrations" are orchestrated by the Democrats who control the House and often involve singing and dancing. Every one of my 4 years have seen substantial celebrations of Cinco de Mayo (Commemorates the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla), St. Patrick's Day (for the patron Saint of Ireland) and Chinese New Year's Day, among others. But never once have we celebrated America's Independence Day, the 4th of July.

So, this year, Republican Assemblyman Jay LaSuer of San Diego arranged for Vietnam war hero Admiral Jeremiah Denton to come to California to be a part of a 4th of July ceremony. As you may know, Admiral Denton was a Navy pilot in Vietnam who was shot down and spent 8 years in a Vietnamese prison. In 1966 while in prison, he was interviewed by North Vietnamese television in Hanoi after torture to get him to "respond properly." During this interview, he blinked his eyes in Morse code to spell out the word "torture." He was asked about his support for the war in Vietnam to which he replied "I don't know what is happening now in Vietnam, because the only news sources I have are Vietnamese. But whatever the position of my government is, I believe in it, I support it, and I will support it as long as I live." Four of his 8 years in prison were spent in solitary confinement. He later wrote the book When Hell was in Session, chronicling his experience in Vietnam....

Great!! John Campbell is talking about this right now on the Hewitt show with Hoge hosting. Also, John said the story was printed in the Washington Times and has been on a lot of talk shows in the country. John said he has been inudated with messages and calls from all over the country!!! John said Congressman Johnson (TX) another Viet POW called him and was incensed!!! No other newspaper in CA ran this story, except for the posting on the Sacramento Union website.

This is pathetic. Im fed up with democrat Bs.

How does this make our CA vets feel? Other vets?

I just hung a 3 x 5 flag high in the front of my home.

Bought at Wal Mart, and yes Made is the USA.

Bush/Cheney stickers will be on both cars before sunset and I know 2 votes are going to make this country better by voting Republican.

It was a privilege to paypal FR a donation today.

It will be one to donate to the Bush campaign this weekend.

Ive got to do more, my daughters cant be handed an America that the left has destroyed.

I've been privileged to hear Admiral Denton speak twice, and you're correct - he's a brave and humble man.

I am not surprised the Dems did this...they do equally bad things every day...it just isn't reported in the mainstream news.

The Oprah-listening women who are going all wobbly on the WOT need to read this.

"It will be one to donate to the Bush campaign this weekend."

I started to do another donation to GW,when my credit card bill for last month came in earlier this week.

I decided to wait until the 4th.

Free Republic gets a monthly donation from me and may get an extra one this fourth.

I've been flying a 3 x 5 flag off and on since 9-11. It's time to rip the facade off the Dems!

This really needs to be publicized everywhere!

The land of fruits and nuts paving the way for the rest of them, around this great country, that is slowly being ruined by the left.

"Admiral Denton still resides in his native Alabama. Mobile I think."

Yup. About 4-5 miles from me on Fowl River near Mobile Bay.

I have not donated to the RNC as of yet, but I, like you, have decided it's time.

Four years of Cinco De Mayo and not one recognition of the 4th of July.

And The Day neareth....

I served with four former POWs in the USAF (Tom McNish, Joe McCurdy, Don Spoon and Bud Day) and became acquainted with another after I retired. (Ted Guy) They were ordinary men who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances, and rose to the challenge.

Jeremiah Denton was exactly the same. I moved from Alabama in September of 1980 so I never had the privilege of voting for him but considered him my "honorary senator" during his service.

California is run by the hate-America Stalinists, who DO NOT represent the views of the majority of Californians. Sadly, though, the determined minority has grasped control of the State Government.

IMHO, California ought to be the first case of Jefferson's axiom:

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience [has] shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce [the people] under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." --Thomas Jefferson: Declaration of Independence, 1776. Good God. Just when you think these scumbags can't sink any lower, they do. I'm really getting sick of this crap.

Excellent summary, I agree completely.

I am seriesly deeply saddened.

The sooner we purge America of these traitorous, cowardly f'n 'rats, the better. They're despicable.
