Tom Ridge cancels Israel visit

US Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge has cancelled a visit to Israel that had been scheduled to take place early next week.
The cancellation came as Ridge on Wednesday warned that there is credible evidence al-Qaida may be trying to mount an attack on the US homeland ahead of the November presidential election.
Ridge had been scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Sharon and other senior Israeli officials and members of the business community.
"Obviously in Israel we understand he has obligations here," said Mark Regev, spokesman for the Israeli embassy in Washington.
Watch what they do, not what they say.
