Actually, not so odd. Many Muslim engineers and scientists work at Hanford, along with Hindus, Jews, Christians, atheists and others who have nothing to do with this discussion. The center is actually in West Richland, is kept up nicely and is in an area of newer homes. I have never heard of any problems related to it (doesn't mean I never will).
Interestingly enough I recently came across this in my readings...
"The odd thing about Islamic fundamentalists is that it's always had the strongest appeal among engineers, There's even a joke about it in Arabic. The words 'al-ikhwan al-muslimun' means 'Muslim brothers' and 'al-ikwan al-muhandisun' means "engineer brothers.' In Egypt they always say the Muslim Brotherhood is really the Engineering Brotherhood."
