I especially liked when Marlon was feeding his dog from a tray of cold cuts. He offered the tray to LK who said, "Thats okay I'm not hungry." Marlon looked up to the sky, rolled his eyes and said, "Its for the dog!"

There was new version of the Twilight Zone in which this idea was explored. (Jason Alexander was the Angel of Death) Some people were brought into the emergency room who had been charred in a fire and were still screaming because they could not die. Very eerie!

Death Takes a Holiday explored this, as did a Lionel Barrymore film from 1939 called On Borrowed Time. Obviously, they weren't as graphic, but the latter was interesting (I didn't see the former, nor do I have any interest in its remake--Meet Joe Black).

RIP Marlon Brando.

The list of stars from Hollywoods Golden Age is getting smaller every year.

Okay people, so he may have been a little bit of a lefty loon as far as politics is concerned, but he doesn't deserve to be chewed out for it on the day of his unfortunate passing. This isn't Arafat we're talking about here. He wasn't an evil man after all, just misguided. Don't whitewash him, but try to be compassionate.

Let's give him and his family the day off from our criticism. Let's not turn this into the same kind of vile-"it's about time"-nastiness that the DU pricks perpetrated on the day of the death of the (truly great)Ronald Reagan.

Here's to one of the greatest actors ever to grace the Silver Screen. His rough, raw, amazing performances for Elia Kazan in the 50's brought movie drama to a whole new level. The character of Fletcher Christian in "The Bounty" was undoubtably immortalized by the presence of Brando in the role (besting the 30's version). His portrayal of Don Vito Corleone in the "Godfather" is simply one of the most memorable, most imitated, and best performances in History. Another highlight was the heartbreak and recklessness he brought to the infamous (yet brilliant) "Last Tango in Paris".

As a film fanatic, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Amen.

The one thing Brando can be faulted for is not working enough. Compared to the number of films by Gene Hackman, DeNiro, Duvall and others Brando was a slacker. He shoulda been a contender ... in about 20 more major pictures.

So what was Richard Burton, chopped liver?

Of course, I think it was Siskel and/or Ebert who said Burton was both the best
and worst English speaking actor one year when he appeared in one great film
and one stinker film.

From Drudge - KNBC has just learned that LA city fire department was called 2 times last night to respond to Brando's residence at 12900 Mulholland Drive - 1st time at 9:48pm and the 2nd at 11:03. Both calls were cancelled, thus the fire dept. considers it as a 'no call'....

Is that for real? Two separate calls to the fire dept. about an hour and a half apart, both calls cancelled, and then he dies.

Strange.

"Seriously, Hollwood is not run by Jews. It's run by atheists, many of whom happen
to be of Jewish ancestry, but who are atheists precisely because they have abandonned
their religion (tautological, no?). "

I get the feeling that you've summed up the situation fairly.

At the same time, I thought the reaction of the radio host "Mr. KABC" (a Jewish law-and-order
liberal in Los Angeles) to the book linked below was pretty funny. He basically said
"of course Jews run Hollywood...why try to pretend that they don't?"

(photo of Brando) too bad this Marlon left us a looong time ago.

Besides the acting, I've heard some "clothing historian" mention that it was
Brando who made the T-shirt acceptable clothing.
(before then, it was always considered an undershirt)

" Wrong this is not the attitude GOD commands from the left or right...He was a human being that has passed GOD Bless his soul and his family who will mourn him..."

That is your opinion and that is okay. But I am sure the misery Marlon and his Hollywood ilk (Jack Nicholson, Robert Blake, Phil Spector et al) brought to his wives and illegitimate children, daughter Cheyenne who committed suicide think otherwise.

"And his "one-bedroom shack on a hill in L.A." is a multi-million dollar, 15-room estate on top of Mulholland Drive next door to Jack Nicholson."

Exactly. There are supposedly three homes on that hill. Jack Nicholson has one; Marlon Brando had another; then another one was owned by someone not in the business. That little shack had gates for the three owners.

That is strange, I didn't give it a second thought. But now that you mention it...

His wife, the former Dorothy Pennebaker, was small, willowy, compassionate and filled with creative energy. Her ambitions often were unrealized, and she underwent periods of problem drinking. She had given birth to two daughters, Frances and Jocelyn, before Marlon was born.

I suspect the article meant 'his MOTHER'. sheesh.

And before him, Gable gave us the wife-beater...

To the topic at hand, Marlon Brando and, while we're at it, Liz Taylor have pretty much, in their "sunsets", done in the wonder of their earlier years. As someone mentioned earlier, dead long before they were buried. That such charismatic and talented people would end up so loony and sad. What a waste.

I've loved looking at him in everything (pre-70's, LOL) but the one that I can play silently is Mutiny on the Bounty. Oooh... between the tropics and the Technicolor tan...

Talented yes, the charisma part was and is still today manufactured by their publicists and the studio machine.
