Iraq was only the low-hanging fruit on the rotten tree of Islamic terrorist supporting states. It posed an unacceptable level of potential threat given it's history and animosity toward the United States. It sits between other sworn enemies of freedom and sponsors of terror, namely Iran, Syria and, to a lesser degree, Saudi Arabia. Unlike Taliban Afghanistan, where there was a direct link to 9/11 ,to wit the harboring of Osama bin Laden's Al Qaida, Iraq was seen as a secular society. This afforded us the ability to put boots in the sand of the middle east without the stigma of anti-Islamic crusade. In the WOT it's "location, location, location"!
