INFANTRY: New U.S. Infantry Brigade Combat Team Organization

June 29, 2004: The new infantry brigade organization is similar in size and scope to the Heavy BCT organizational change. The 101st Airborne Division is beginning to undergo this change and will ultimately field 4 of the new BCTs. The 10th and 25th Infantry Divisions will follow later in the process. As with the heavy units expect changes as a result of training at the Joint Regional Training Center in Fort Polk, LA and from a pending deployment back to Iraq.

The new infantry brigade is organized as follows;

CSC is being resurrected. In ancient times we had HHC, Co.'s A, B, & C, and CSC.

CSC had:

Scout PLT. Our Scout PLT had a Sniper Squad.

Mortar PLT

Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge

Our CSC also had the HQ Tank Section from HHC.

I believe CSC's at one time had Redeye Sections and Ground Surveillance Radar Sections but that was before my time.

And a long, long time ago they had a Davey Crockett Platoon.

My question: Where are the Stryker vehicles in all of this?

The Stryker vehicles will probably be in the infantry battalions. And support variants, such as 120mm mortar carriers will be in the mortar platoon. I'll have to research it, but the recon companies will probably have Hummvees (hopefully the armored variant.)

Beats me what an assault platoon is in this context. Could be a combat engineer unit. I think the Marines have assault platoons.

This organization does not have Strykers. This is what the brigades of 3ID are trying to reconfigure into.

If this is the 101st Airborne, where are the aviation assets? Will the division lose its airmobile capability? If so thats some reorganization.

Why assign a FA Btry to each Bn instead of an FA Bn to each Bde? Does DIVARTY still have direct support Bn's for each BDE? Where are fire support personnel assigned?

Will they be permanently organized like that, or is this the Task Organization for deployment? If this is permanent organization not just task organization, it looks like the Army is phasing out the concept of a separate MI, Signal, and Engineer battalion.

I would like to know what the Assault PLT's are?
Are they Mounted? Is this a new name for Anti-Armor/Heavy WPS Plt's. Are there still TOW's in the INF Bn?

I'm in a National Guard Enhanced INF BDE that will be one of the first National Guard units to change to this structure. We have alot of questions about it. My Company is a Delta Co.(anti-Armor) now, we were told that we were changing to a CSC.

I can find no specifics on the TO&E for this new "Assault Platoon." I'm guessing high-speed CQB and MOUT capabilites.

The Marines had assault platoons. I don't know if these were regularly constituted or temporarily task organized. The Marines put flamethrowers, bazookas and satchel charge flingers in assault platoons to clear Japanese bunkers.
