Was Joseph Lesniewski really member of E 506th PIR?
Review of 506th websites found they do not list Joseph Lesniewski as a member of the 506th.
CIB orders for 506th dated June 15,1944 do not list him.
Is this another Kerry attempt at - Bush has one get me one - that was not vetted?

I'll take Dick Winters--not some guy who didn't make the movie.

Kerry sucks.

Was Joseph Lesniewski really member of E 506th PIR?

Yes. He is also interviewed extensively in the "Band of Brothers" mini-series.

He was trained by the Office of Strategic Studies (OSS) and was part of the heroic and immortalized 506th Regiment depicted in the Stephen Ambrose novel Band of Brothers.

Does nopt compute. If he was OSS trained, why wasn't he working for the OSS? Kind of a waste to undergo that much training that wouldn't be useful in a combat jump and following operations.

Something stinks and I think it's this guy's BS.

Not all veterans love Bush. At least he's not parading around pretending like they're his God-given voting block like you-know-who.

#9. I did not question that, I was merely listing some historical notoriety about herr kerry and merely letting the world know about some of kerry's other friends in my links above.

Thanks for the info, D2

Statement by Maj.Winters Fmr Commander of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion,506th PIR, 101st Airborne
George W. Bush ^ | May 28, 2004

Statement by Maj. Dick Winters Former Commander of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division

(title edited for length)

WASHINGTON, DC - Maj. Dick Winters (U.S. Army Ret.) issued the following statement regarding the President's support of men and women serving in the armed forces:

"The President's actions on behalf of our servicemen and women show his deep respect for all who wear the uniforms of our armed forces. President Bush has overseen a 21 percent increase in military pay since taking office and has ensured that our troops in the field have what they need to win the War on Terror. The President's steady leadership in these changing times and commitment to bringing the fight to the terrorists is keeping America safe.

"Funding for VA medical care has increased by over 40 percent during the President's term, facilitating the treatment of one million additional veterans. President Bush has been a great friend to the greatest generation."

Biography of Maj. Dick Winters:

During World War II, Maj. Dick Winters was commander of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division. Easy Company is the airborne infantry unit memorialized in the HBO series and Stephen Ambrose book Band of Brothers. During the early phases of the airborne assault on D-Day, Lieutenant Winters took temporary command of Easy Company and bravely led a charge through open fire to a German four-gun battery that was placing indirect fire on Utah Beach. With the help of the cover fire provided by his men, Winters took out the guns almost single-handedly and discovered a map detailing German artillery and machine gun positions throughout the Continental Peninsula. In addition to being known for bravery, Winters was also known for his strong leadership. Maintaining a careful balance between humility and confidence, Winters became a source of inspiration and stability, earning the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions on D-Day.

I was also fortunate enough to meet a guy last weekend. I noticed him in the local Denny's. He had a cap on that said "17th Aorbourne Corps, 507th" I stopped and asked him if he jumped on D-day. He said yes and then I thanked him for his service. He said "Nobody has thanked me in over 30 years." This bothered me and I was on my way out so I said "Well mine is sincere and I mean it." I about got to the door and it hit me so I went back and said "were you at the church?" He looked at me for 15 seconds and said "Yes". I then asked "Were you at the bridge?" He again paused and said "Yes". At this point I was starting to well up and just wanted to go. I shook his hand again and said "Rangers lead the way." He responded appropriately with "All the way." I then left and got about three miles away and reliazed I didn't ask his name. Returned and he was gone. I will find him again.

So if any of you readers do not know about the church and the bridge u need to find out. They are two of the most compelling D-day stories.

Hint, on D-day the 507th PIR was attached to the 82nd Airboure - The All American(s)
