I was only a few years old at the time so I don't remember the accident. Why didn't she go out the driver's side door when he opened it and got out? Did he purposefully trap her in the car?

Some people think that she was asleep in the back seat and Kennedy didn't even know she was there, meaning there was another girl in the front seat with him who escaped with him.

Well, we'll never know will we, because his people came out in full force to protect him and the judge handling the case (big Kenndey suck up) wouldn't even let the grand jury question certain aspects of the case from what I've read and been told many years ago.

A&E's Investigative Reports did a story on this, a two hour episode, in fact. Their reconstruction established that Kopechne would have to have been driving the car to receive the injuries to her side that resulted. I can't remember every detail, but the only scenario that fit the facts, once they established she was driving the car, was that Kennedy got out of the car to avoid being caught drunk at the wheel with a young blonde in the car. Some police had rousted them from a "lover's lane"-type spot earlier. Kennedy gets out of the car, tells her to drive car to place X where he will meet her, and she drives off the bridge in the dark--the car was large, huge compared to her own VW, and she was probably under the influence. Hours and hours later, Teddy gets a phone call about them pulling a car out of Chappaquidick, and he has to make up a story...

I'm not sure that's what happened, but if true it explains a lot, like why she didn't just swim out after him when he escaped: she couldn't, because no one escaped from that car, and Kennedy didn't know she was there...

I was in Mass. back when this happened. Kennedy worshipers were so sad for him.

But your statement “why didn’t she go out the window” is one that people asked and asked back then. According to the autopsy she did not suffer skull injuries at all. She was not knocked unconscious.

Was it possible she was pregnant with his child, drowned before they flipped the car in the water? Such was speculation back then. She was not examined for pregnancy.

Kennedy was guilty of manslaughter at the very least and the fact that charges were not brought against him, that he got two months supended sentence for leaving the scene of an accident, etc. All this makes us realize that personal ethics makes no difference to liberals who like him for his ideology.

Either he was drunk that night and had to sober up before they called the police or he held her head under the water then sent the car off the the road to make it look like the murder was an accident. Either way - the brain tumor at least will possibly bring about some justice and hell awaits unrepentant sinners.
