Dog days
Alerted by his daughter to a growing controversy over the handling of lost pets, Gov. Schwarzenegger announced this afternoon that he has withdrawn a proposal that would have allowed shelters to put lost animals to death sooner. In a move to give cities and counties more flexibility to handle their own budgets and save money, Schwarzenegger had proposed repealing a state mandate that requires shelters to hold animals for six days before putting them to death. But animal rights activists protested the move, and now Schwarzenegger has relented.
I realized last night there was a mistake I made, Schwarzenegger told reporters in a hallway outside his office. Animals will be kept in animal shelters for six days. Everything will be kept exactly the same.

Put it to a vote.
You'll lose.

LMFAO!! LOL. good response.. haha
I already pay taxes.
I said it once and I'll say it again "Shut up"... I have lost a pet for more than 3 days and by the GRACE OF GOD I found them.
I told you: "Heaven goes by grace. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."
I'll bet I gave more to no-kill animal shelters than you did, last year.
And, I do animal rescue, something a pencil-pusher like you who calculate the value of animal life in dollars and cents simply wouldn't understand.
What good can a pet that nobody wants do?
You're a pathetic young man.
And, if you're not young, you ought to know better.
Just as I thought. You want me to pay for your government services. It's time for pet owners to take some personal responsibitity and pay their own way instead of free-loading on every body else.
If you don't like what I say, get off the thread, it's simple as that.. I'm not forcing you to be here. I didn't force you into this discussion.
Maybe if you took the responsibility of making sure there was a secure collar on your pet's neck, with your contact information on it, you would have found it sooner.
In the meantime.. Take $20 out of your weekly paycheck and donate it to the "Lost Pets" fund, since you are so adamant about telling me to "shut-up".
Don't let your emotions get in the way of your brain.
I think I'd trust governments to quarantine suspected dogs on their own if a rescue squad helps a dog bite victim.
Are you willing to volunteer your own money and time?
===
Absolutely not.. I just spent the whole thread saying that I don't want to subsidize irresponsible pet owners.
If everyone is so concerned about the puppies sitting in a cage for 6 days, they can donate.
The difference between me and you... You support irresponsible pet owners.. I don't..
Live with it.
I do donate my time and my money to pet rescue and "YOU" have no idea what your talking about. I now have 13 rescued animals in my care.. something you would know nothing about since you are incapable of a conscious thought.. unlike the animals I have taken in.
I didn't write that to you did I?
That's noble work you're doing Snykerz.
I have 1 dog and 2 cats that I'm taking care of,.. but because I choose not to take in more animals than I want, apparently it makes me a horrible person in your eyes, right?
I probably could take care of more animals than that.. But guess what.. I don't want to! It's not my responsibility to.
I know people,(family) who rescue so many homeless pets that they don't have enough time for their children.
Well, Bless you for taking care of them the way they should be taken care of!! I have 13 of them that had no home, no love, no food, and let me tell you, they have all brigtened my life!! You are not a horrible person in my eyes...I just believe that 3 days is not enough time to find the one you love if they come up missing... and trust me each and every one of these animals.. 4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 horses, a lizard and a misplaced chicken..LOL...are all very grateful for the life they have and I am more than happy to give it to them. They "ALL" deserve a chance as they did not choose to be here... so we do what we can to make it a better place for them.
It's no wonder that few have a burning desire to be governor.
You have no soul.
Right on Ambrose.
The number of animals slaughtered in shelters all over the U.S. is a disgrace.
There should be a hefty licensing fee for not neutering your animals and more rigorous enforcemnet of laws against people who allow their animals to become public nusances by straying.
"Anyway, great... you should run for office on a platform of killing puppies... see how far it gets you..."
Sort of like running against Santa Claus or the American Flag - and rightly so.
