ooooooooo good idea
*cough*Suprnovadotorg*cough*
So far, Lisa Meyers of msnbc is the only MSPress reporter who has debunked this film point by point. Her segment aired at about 9:30 this morning and needs to repeated. She was emphatic that this was in no way a documentary but purely political propaganda.
Only dedicated leftists go to see his lame propaganda. Oh and everybody in France.
what matters is the type of people who go to see it. 43% of the country are Dems anyway - that's alot of people, and if the only people seeing it are some fraction of that group - it means nothing politically. they are lining up to see it in the west village and upper west side of manhattan - so what.
who went to see bowling for columbine?
Great idea. As Freepers we should have an organized effort to download the movie when the bootlegs on the 'Net in a few days (I figure God would overlook this offense if it meant not putting any money in the pig's pockets), watch it, and have a scene-by-scene debunking and email it out to everyone we know.
I will add one thing - I would worry that CBS or one of the networks picks it up and airs it in October before the election, that would not be good.
"The use of Fashions in thought is to distract the attention of men from their real dangers. We direct the fashionable outcry of each generation against those vices of which it is least in danger and fix its approval on the virtue nearest to that vice which we are trying to make endemic. The game is to have them all running about with fire extinguishers whenever there is a flood, and all crowding to the side of the boat which is already nearly gunwale under. Thus we make it fashionable to expose the dangers of enthusiasm at the very moment when they are all really becoming worldly and lukewarm; a century later, when we are really making them all Byronic and drunk with emotion, the fashionable outcry is directed against the dangers of the mere 'understanding'. Cruel ages are put on their guard against sentimentality, feckless and idle ones against Respectability, lecherous ones against Puritanism; and whenever all men are really hastening to be slaves or tyrants we make Liberalism the prime bogey." - CS Lewis, from The Screwtape LettersWhat does it say about our age that the fashionable posture is to be against Bush?
MARK LEVIN IN FOR HANNITY TODAY!!!!
talking about F9/11
I heard Glenn Beck compare it to one of Goebbels propoganda films (even though he hadn't seen it.)
His show was sending someone to see it this weekend and take notes (eividently going on a pass because they weren't going to spend money) and were going to debunk the lies on Monday's show.
I still say the thing to do is to bring "ammo" for the screen. Raw eggs works for me.
Business Data for
Canadian Bacon (1995) (Written and Directed by Michael Moore)
Budget
$11,000,000
Gross
$178,104 (USA)
Thanks for the tip! Levin is the best voice on radio. I get laughing/coughing fits on my drive home each night.
I saw her; I was surprised at what a good job she did.
Don't bother debunking. That's being on the defensive. Instead focus on the offensive. We need to show the ugly RATs in their ugliest modes everywhere. In other words, we need to show America the face of the enemy and convince them that these vermin are indeed THEIR enemy.
I said this very thing when it was brought up on another site I frequent(local group that has a website). It was in reaction to all these idiot women who said they'll be going to see this. I couldn't let just the suggestion folks see it stand without saying how dangerous I thought this guy was. MY post was pulled because it was political and they were worried about their non profit status. Can anyone tell me is that really an issue? A member not in any sort of leadership role who expresses a political opinion can not do so on a nonprofit sit when it is in reaction to another persons recommendation of a peice of political propagandist garbage? BTW, this same site allowed members to post their blog links--somne of which were outrageously political--how did that stand? I'd love anyone who knows about non profits to answer me on this one. I've let it sit for now until I can get more info.
To be fair, Bowling for Columbine only made $5,885,118 (source: imdb, 2003 oct) in France. Unfortunately it still made about $120 milliion (this figure includes DVD and pay TV sales etc.) overall.
$20 million is huge for a documentary though, and BFC spent most of its time in very limited release. It WAS a success.
Those flops that you list were supposed to do well, had large budgets, etc.
When people say that FH 9/11 will break records, they mean by the standards of a documentary, which rarely make a penny at the box-office.
And I'm not supporting Moore. I hate him.
BTW, considering how his goal is for this film to brainwash people into voting against Bush, my bet is that it'll fail in that department. And you KNOW that Moore and his huge ego are convinced that this movie will convince people to vote against Bush.
