So how many Christian Laettners will be drafted this year?

Back in the 80s I used to be a huge fan of the NBA draft. Of course, the major difference back then was you followed the players through 4 years of college, for example Partick Ewing, Ralph Sampson, Akeen Olajuwoan, Chris Mullen, even the busts like Walter Berry, Pearl Washington, and Chris Washburn. These days I have no idea who 3/4 of these players are. NBA draft has become more akin to the NHL or MBL draft.

At least I knew who Christian Laettner is. I have no clue who most of the players are or seen them play.

LOL!

The endless season just ended and now the brief off season begins. If it wasn't so pathetic, I'd probably like the sport again.

The NBA should get lost for 4 months.

Congrats on your Pistons' championship, Dan. I'm glad they beat the Lakers because I don't want to see Karl Malone win anything (he, and Reggie Miller). Also, it's good to see the championship return to the Midwest. Be sure to keep your eyes on LeBron and Company! ;-)

Now let's see if Cuban and the Mavs can use the #5 pick and maybe Dirk Nowitzki in a trade for Shaq. This should be interesting.

Supposedly the Mavs are unwilling to trade Dirk even in a deal for Shaq.

I agree with you actually. Very soon March Madness will be the tournament of also-rans instead of a draft showcase. I can just see the NBA now... "If you were any good, why didn't you get drafted out of HS?"

My sentiments exactly. Only I would add a few more names to your list.

You speak heresy!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no way Cuban should trade Dirk for Shaq.

Of course being the internet billionaire whiz-nerd he is, that is probably exactly what will happen.

As far as I am concerned, Shaq is nothing more than a HUUUUUGE baby. If he wasn't taller than the net, he'd be worthless.

Unfortunately, I have heard comments like that. For example, players who stay in college for 4 years get a rap that they were not good enough to get drafted in the NBA early in their career.

That's what they say. Anyway, it's now rumored that Steve Nash and Antoine Walker may be offered along with the #5 for O'Neal. I know they say they want to keep Nowitzki, but we'll soon see.

hopefully the lakers arent dumb enough to trade shaq for a couple nobodies and the fifth player in a weak draft, if so the gm should be fire on the spot.

There is a book out called "Out of Bounds" that tracks the criminal record of NBA players. Supposedly almost half the players have criminal records although that might include misdemeanors.
