ISTANBUL (Reuters) - A large explosion has been heard in a mainly residential district of Turkey's largest city Istanbul, where a NATO summit is set for next week, state-run Anatolian news agency has reported.
Earlier on Thursday a small parcel bomb exploded outside the Hilton Hotel in the capital Ankara, where U.S. President George W. Bush is due to stay on Saturday night before attending the summit.
Turkish TV reports at least 2 dead, 7 injured. Some reports say explosion on bus near hospital.
Let's see what Turkey does about this. In the past few weeks it has been bashing Israel saying it is the cause of anti-Semitism, that its policies (against terrorism) cause terrorism, etc. etc. and has been condemning Israeli counter-terror policies, along with the whole world. As usual, in this instance, there is no "occupation" of Istanbul or anything like that right? So they have a right to do whatever they want...you will see the UN convene and give them a backing momentarily as well. I wonder if they will be asked to exercise "restraint."
