Miami, FL, Jun. 22 (UPI) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson has accused Florida Gov. Jeb Bush of conducting "disenfranchisement schemes" by asking counties to purge felons from voting rolls.

In a visit to south Florida Monday, the Chicago civil rights leader tried to promote opposition to the state's use of felon removal lists, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

NAACP APPROVED THE LIST OF FELONS BEING PURGED FROM VOTER ROLLS IN FLORIDA!

Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman for Secretary of State Glenda Hood, said it's mandatory under state law and that the list has the approval the U.S. Department of Justice and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which sued the state in 2001 over the list used in 2000.

***Is Father Jesse implying that most of the felons in Florida are black?

Now THAT'S sterotyping.***

Oh, GOOD! You saved me the trouble of saying it.

A lot of those felons are also illegal aliens, and/or deceased.

More than you know.

Criminal aliens—non-citizens who commit crimes—are a growing threat to public safety and national security, as well as a drain on our scarce criminal justice resources. In 1980, our federal and state prisons housed fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens. By the end of 1999, these same prisons housed over 68,000 criminal aliens. Today, criminal aliens account for over 29 percent of prisoners in Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities and a higher share of all federal prison inmates. These prisoners represent the fastest growing segment of the federal prison population.

The non-reverand Mr. Jackson hasn't got sense enough to follow the law. Oh wait a minute he's a rat, there is no controlling legal authority.

STFU Jesse!

"Or worse. Jesse is implying that most blacks are felons and as a black person I am offended by that. "

You should be offended. Its like the "Irish are drunks" stereotype we have to put up with. I will concede that some of us Irish drink more than our share, but its insulting nevertheless, as is any ethnically based derogatory generality.
The vast majority of Irish are not drunks and the vast majority of blacks are not felons.
Jesse should be ashamed of himself for pandering to this racist stereotype.

I thought Jessie had gone back into his hole for an extended period of time. He's in the same league as Algore, WANNABEES.

Never see headlines of the fight against purging dead voters from the lists.

After a criminal serves his time, how can ANY of his rights be stripped away?

This includes right to bear arms and right to free speech.

A person who is convicted but out on parole can have limits on his actions as a condition of his early release but if our rights come from God and restrict the actions of government, they cannot be "taken away" as a result of committing a crime. Once you have served your time you are not under parole.

And if it seems odd to mention the right to free speech next to bearing arms, there was a case in Florida where a man was charged with obscenity in some comics he made. He was prohibited from drawing anything (and subject to surprise inspections at his home) for a period of time.

Some of us are cognizant of the fact that people can be labeled as felons for such things as not paying child support. In some states writing a bad check over $50 is a felony. Felons may be the citizens who need the vote the most.

After a felon serves his time, can any of his rights be restored ?

I believe that seven years after parole, they can apply to the governor of their state for a form of "absolution". They detail how they have turned their life around and become a productive member of society and they can get their rights reinstated.

Depends on the state. 39 states allow felons to vote including 4 of which allow incarcerated felons to vote.

I was convicted of "illegal carry" a felony in my state (Illinois) Should we ever get the "right" to carry in Illinois it won't apply to me - I'm a convicted felon you see. Illinois still allows me to vote though.<p.

"Jesse is implying that most blacks are felons and as a black person I am offended by that."

You SHOULD be offended!

JJ is not only an extortionist by profession, he continues to diminish the self esteem and motivation of blacks by his pandering.

Everyone needs to believe that they may achieve things by hard work and honest behavior.

Telling black kids that they can't make it in "a white man's world" is just plain wrong. Telling a kid that it's hopeless hardly motivates him/her.

I despise the man, and am quite certain he doesn't really give a damn about the well being of blacks or any other group. If he did he wouldn't say the things he does!

A good question, but why should all of his rights be reinstated?

"Is Father Jesse implying that most of the felons in Florida are black?"

If you read it more closely, you'll notice that the race-baitin' champ has added a new word to his phraseology, intended to show he is broadening his 'base', and that he is not a racist.

"... denying the right to vote based on race and class ..."
