Except Lidice was agressors against innocents and here it would be the opposite...

Do you really think we would not be the agressors if we tried to "end" terrorism by flattening cities full of innocents?

Keep in mind that Lidice was destroyed in retaliation for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by Czech partisans -- who were to the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, what the salamikazes are to our occupation of Iraq. There is no difference between what the Germans did there, and what some people are calling for on this thread.

Of course, there is a vast difference between us and the Nazis, in terms of what we stand for. Part of that difference is shown by how we react: the Germans destroyed and conquered, and Americans liberate and rebuild. But that difference disappear as soon as we start destroying cities in retaliation for salamikaze attacks.

Your simple comment was received in the context of the current seriously dishonest, destructive news cycle, and personal frustrations with our fellow FReepers who spread the mainstream lies and do not bother to verify the facts with the sources...or to help find and post the news from those fighting and running this war.

I am heartbroken, and humbled, after a long, rather wasted effort.

My apologies, and thank you for your efforts to help in the WOT.

I don't always agree with the President either, but I pretty much never agree with those with asperations of taking his place.

Wipe the damn town off the map.

Kill 250,000 civilians. Yeah, that'll solve everything.

A video image released June 22, 2004 by Al Jazeera television shows a group of heavily armed gunmen, standing over kidnapped Korean Kim Sun-il. Militants beheaded the South Korean hostage in Iraq Tuesday after Seoul refused their demand to withdraw its troops and scrap plans to send more. South Korea confirmed that U.S. troops had found the body of 33-year-old Kim, five days after he was seized in Falluja, a guerrilla hotbed 32 miles west of Baghdad.

Poor guy looks terrified.

ANYBODY ELSE TIRED AS HELL OF HEARING OUR COMPASSIONATE PRESIDENT TALKING ABOUT BRINGING ISLAMIC MURDERERS TO "JUSTIC"? THEY LAUGH AT HIM...WHEN ARE WE GOING TO START PLAYING THIS GAME SERIOUSLY???? WE ARE WORRIED BECAUSE PRISONERS AT ABU GHRAIB HAD PANTIES ON THERE HEADS, AND THEY ARE OVER THERE CUTTING PEOPLE'S HEADS OFF....WHAT A JOKE....BUSH IS A JOKE NOW...I THOUGHT HE WAS SERIOUS, BUT ITS EVIDENTLY ALL ABOUT OIL AND HIM GREASING HIS POCKETS....BRING OUR BOYS BACK HOME IF YOUR NOT GONNA FIGHT !!!!!

Gee I thought we brought a bunch of these terrorists to justice in Falluja this week. Shouting out a moronic rant may make you feel good but it solves nothing.

What's wrong, things aren't finished fast enough for you?

All you "anklebiters" are just background noise.

Bush is trying to get something done. Something difficult. I pray for success. Our survival might just depend upon it.

Explosions are being reported around the site of the original airstrike last week; nothing more yet. (per Fox News)

All good suggestions for a long-term approach. What happens in the short-term as they continue to try to kill our people? What happens if they succeed in detonating a nuclear weapon on US soil? The solution(s) you list are similar to the Cold War which was fenced by mutually assured destruction and put in place over two generations. I don't see a similar deterrant that will ensure any type of peace.

Thank you for the comment. I was distressed that what I said would be taken wrong by anyone, I wanted to clarify.

I find it interesting that a supposed Christian would fly off the handle so quickly, but these are troubling times and I will try to understand the feelings.

Yeah, that'll solve everything.

If it's whittled down to a choice of them or us? Damn right it will.

Read my #541 for a partial answer to your question. The reality is that so long as human nature remains what it is, terrorism in various forms will be with us always. If you want to narrow it down to the subject at hand, victory over radical Islamist terrorism, that can only come from the Muslims themselves. The best we can hope to do from the outside is perpetual war. Why? There are several billion Muslims on the planet, spread out across the globe. We can't possibly "nuke" them all.

"AQ would love us to nuke Mecca - they'd have 100 million jihadis ready to sign up across every nation on the globe."

I say, Good! Then there will be no more talk of Religion of peace, and everyone can choose a damn side.

I think that GWB, like his father and like Clinton, has tried to win the affection of those who dislike him. Do you guys remember him having Ted Kennedy over for a movie? What a joke. Remember Patton's speech "America loves a winner and will not tolerate a loser. America loves to win all the time. The very thought of losing; is hateful to Americans." That is where we are now. GWB is not showing us that he has the guts to meet this new level of savagery.

Apology accepted. :) I think we are all in a state of shock with everything that has been going on lately. We will prevail, I honestly believe that!

Of course we would have done a land invasion...

That's not news...

We dropped the bombs in hopes to bring the Japanese to the table so we wouldn't have to invade.

I know our conversation is sublime...but the nukes did not have the desired effect on the military. After two cities were destroyed, they still wanted to fight. It had the desired effect on the Emperor. The Emperor alone stopped the fighting.

If the Emperor had not stopped it, we would have had to invade Japan.

What I've been saying (and you have been ignoring) is that there is no Emperor in the terrorist organization. No one who will standy up when we nuke and flatten and turn to glass cities throughout the Middle East. They don't care what happens to the citizens. They only care about the destiny and glory of Islam. Death to them means nothing. The death of millions of Muslims mean nothing.

To stop them, we are going to have to track them down and kill them one-by-one because they are scattered throughout the world.

We are winning... why isn't that enough for you?
