At our school, you were out if you got hit...BUT if you caught the ball before it hit anyone or the ground...the person at the beginning of your team's line got to come back in.
I am not sure if this is the regular way to play, BUT I LOVED IT!
I was a GREAT catcher!
Got lots of people back in the game!~
My team loved me!
And I was one of the FAT GIRLS!
This game and softball were my favorite parts of PE!!
I was none too fast....but in this game, it didn't matter!
I now work in public ed... there are virtually NO GAMES with winners. NONE!
EVERYBODY WINS...hmmm....what does THAT MEAN????
You know what it means? It means that there is NEVER a time for a FAT KID, or any other kid for that matter, to prove themselves competent at a game. Kids can just go right along assuming that people either ARE or ARE NOT athletic based on what they look like! There is NEVER a time to prove yourself! I would have been TOAST!
Thank GOD that I was in school at a different time! I LOVED PE!

At my junior high, you can actually play dodgeball in the gym. We have foam balls so no ninnies can complain, and you can also get people on your team back in if you hit the backboard on the other end. In elementary, tho, all of the competitive games either had impossible-to-count scores or impossible ways to win.

We had a rule that, if you caught the ball, the thrower was out.

If you were the last one on your team and you caught the ball, your whole team was back in.

Imagine a 3 on 1 game suddenly becoming 20 on 3.
