From Arnold's own mouth. Several years back, Arnold was interviewed by Bill O'Reilly and called himself a "social liberal". I take him at his word.
Prior to the recall election, candidate Arnold made it very clear. His intention was to get the state out of the red and into the black, in order to return full funding of all of California's social wefare programs. Again, I take him at his word.

Well, answer the following questions for me:
- Has he been an effective person at pushing his program?
- Has his program been a significant improvement over Davis'?
- Have his political skills not been - let's not beat around the bush here - truly exceptional?
- Will he create a wonderful speech about his immigrant roots, and about success, and how re-electing George W Bush is vital to the country's future in November?
- Will it be a convincing speech that will increase ratings for the Republican convention? In fact, will said ratings absolutely crush ratings for the Democratic convention?
- Is Arnold's speech and endorsement of the President going to add votes to the "R" column?
- Is it possible, albiet unlikely, that he could help put California in play? A GOP win in California, or even competitiveness in California, would be a body blow to Kerry's campaign.
Is there any serious doubt as to the answers to these questions?
Yes, he's a social liberal. Big deal; California's a socially liberal state. Bush isn't, and he's the nominee. Arnold isn't even eligible to become President.
