I keep thinking the next "hit" will be somewhere in Flyover Country, USA, so that NO-ONE feels safe ANYWHERE. I mean, we had a meeting attended by 3 U.S. congressmen here last month with LITTLE OR NO security at the door.
I was at a charity event last fall with Tom DeLay and almost every elected official in Ft Bend County. DeLay only had three Capital Hill cops with him, HOWEVER I could count 40+ concealed handgun holders in the crowd. Being that you too live in Texas security may be better than what you see.
My associates and I have been discussing for some time exactly your thoughts. I have envisioned 10-20 suicide bombers in malls detonating simultaneously in cities across the nation, not necessary the biggest cities. What do you suppose that would do to our economy? Yes, they would prove that no one is safe anywhere. We are in a world not envisioned in our youth.
The lack of security at soft target places is a concern for me too. I visited 8 different high schools at the end of May and was amazed that I was able to enter and walk through each school virtually unquestioned. I did see uniformed police officers at some of the schools but as of yesterday our police chief, in Columbus, drastically cut the funding for officers in schools. All of us must remain diligent. I truly believe that our country needs us ordinary citizens now more than ever, but I fear it will take a tragic event somewhere in flyover country to open most folks eyes.
