White couple with Chinese toddler kicked off plane
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | Friday, June 11, 2004 | Associated Press

ERIE — A white couple and their adopted daughter were ordered off an airplane because police were concerned they had abducted the Chinese toddler.

Richard and Ruth Feiock, of Tallahassee, Fla., said the actions of police were bigoted and that they may file a civil lawsuit against Erie International Airport.

“It was a very racist thing to do, ordering us off of the plane,” said Richard Feiock, a political science professor at Florida State University. The family was in Erie on Tuesday night to see an older daughter graduate from Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy.

Two people aboard the Delta flight became concerned when the Feiock´s 2-year-old daughter began crying incessantly as the airplane sat on the tarmac, police said.

Race was not a consideration when the couple were asked to get off the plane, said David Bagnoni, director of public safety and chief of police at Erie International.

“The baby was screaming, ‘Mommy, Mommy, Mommy,´ and fussing, trying to get out of the hands of the woman holding her,” he said....

Unfortunately many children in this country never get adopted. I suppose many find if more fashionable to adopt a foreign child.

Didn't miss the point, mixed race = white parents & Asian child. That's my situation.

My point. It is more likely that a white couple, with a white child screaming "mommy" is an abduction than my situation.

It is common sense given the number of white/white vs. white/Asian families.

I don't think that reports of trade in children in other countries has any more to do with China than it does with the USA. Unless you think that all children screaming for their mothers should be taken off of planes (something I might otherwise support... : ) I don't see much to justify the actions taken here.

Why do people have to go overseas to adopt a baby? Don't we have American kids who need to be adopted--or is there something wrong with orphaned American kids?

In our case, we were declared too old to adopt by the U.S. agencies. We could adopt an older child, but most of these poor kids are warehoused and drugged, and frankly we were not up for that challenge - perhaps in the future we will be.

In addition, the U.S. court system caused a concern, as did "open adoption". keilimon

"? If this were a criterion, someone would have been kicked off of virtually every flight I've been on in the last 10 years or so..."

RANT -- ON

Gawd. . .I wish this was true. . .I'm a frequent, VERY frequent air traveler (over 100k last year) and I've had it with screaming kids and adults that pander them, as well as dolts that trundle on the jet, overloaded with bags, looking like a street vendor, head down, not looking up until they reach their seat. Then, in a moment of painful thinking, they discover the overhead storage is full. . .and they trundle past their seat to locate a place to load all their treasures. Of course, once their treasures are stored they have to swim upstream against the flow to get to their seat. Then, after landing, these dim bulbs have to swim upstream against the flow to retrieve their precious bags. . . .a situation that could have been avoided if a) they would pack smart and light, and b) look UP as they approach their seat and identify open storage early, like a row to two in front of their seat.

RANT---OFF.

Your comment is well, lacking. Mommy is not that hard even for a 2 year old. From anywhere.

And if the kid was an abductee, a little sleeping potion puts 'em right to sleep. That's how the pros do it.

yup - they're aborted. You want a healthy baby, instead of a messed up older child from foster care, you adopt from abroad. You can also adopt a black baby, but you run into racial issues later on.

Right you are. However, white couples also run into problems trying to adopt black infants. Many social workers do not wish to place a black infant with a white couple because they fear problems latter on in the life of the infant due to "racial identity issue".

Two of my friends (she is of Mexican/Porto Rican/German heritage and he is of Irish/English/Filipino heritage) wanted to adopt a black infant. They both have good jobs, a stable marriage, and a members in good standing of a racially mixed church. I was all set to become godmother to a precious little boy in 2001. THREE social workers scotched the adoption because neither of the parents were black and that would cause problems for the child later in life. I am now the proud godmother to a wonderful toddler who started out life in the Ukraine. That precious baby boy, now toddler, is still in foster care.

Like you, I travel quite a bit. My biggest annoyance is with people flying with screaming kids who just put on their headsets and ignore them. It's as if they deny any responsibility for their get.

Of course not its not in vouge

Catch a clue here, pal. If you understood the problems inherent in any inter-racial adoption you might not be so flippant in your response. Believe it or not, some of us adopted our kids without giving a flying Kerry whether or not a celebrity had done so.

I live in San Diego, and we were going to take a day trip into TJ. Our light rail train ends 100' from the border. My then 4 year old daughter decided it was a good day to pitch a major tantrum. Needless to say, Dad and daughter waited on the USA side, while mom and son walked over the border. At least five cops came over to ask "how I was doing" and give me a polite 3rd degree. I would expect nothing less from good cops! A screaming child, near a border or on an airplane demands an official inquiry.

Fashion has nothing to do with it. And you are right, there are many kids in this country who do not have homes. Rather than ignorantly claim it has to do with fashion, why not learn something about the laws, court system, and pro-abortion activists that create and perpetuate the problem. Hell, I would love to have a houseful of kids - and has been said eloquently elsewhere, if every Christian did their duty there would be no need for orphanages or foster homes.

Yeah. . .you got that right. . .just because THEY gave up and decided to live with heck-on-earth, no reason why they should impose that on the rest of us.

"Don't we have American kids who need to be adopted--or is there something wrong with orphaned American kids?"

There are just so many problems with this. First of all there is abortion, and secondly, there are racist social workers who do not want black children adopted by white people. So, yes, I think many people find it easier to adopt from overseas.

They sure do. My brother and his wife adopted a Korean baby. One day our family went to a local Chinese restaurant. One of the waiters wanted to know if my brother and sister-in-law wanted to "buy" another baby.

Most places in Asia, one can just buy a kid within a matter of an hour. Price for a child is very inexpensive by our standards.

When I lived in Asia, I've been approached to "buy" someone's baby. The woman looked to be the grandmother holding the baby. Price was near $100. U.S.

Amen to that. I wonder how many people on this thread demanding that we should have adopted from the U.S. have done so. I will never apologize for adopting my kids from overseas. They are a gift from God, no matter where they were born.

I once flew into Canada with my own toddler and was given a hard time at customs because my dh was not with me and I took a one-way flight. My dh couldn't be reached because he was on the road at the time. They wouldn't let me in the country until they spoke to his brother who confirmed his whereabouts. They were afraid I was kidnapping my son.

Thank God she didn't wake her little brother in the next room.

Oh I almost forgot, she's Chinese.
