A FReeper posted earlier about a press-corp dinner where Pres. Reagan invited Nancy to say some nice words to the press, and she just stood up beside him and smiled...no nice words, just a wordless statement which spoke volumes
Does anybody else remember this? I *barely* have a recollection of the event, would love to read a report about it.
LOLOL, she had them pegged from the beginning. And snubbed them beautifully.

I am proud to have served under him as my CINC. Ronald Reagan helped pull this country out of a huge hole in 1980. I was in the service then and Mr. Peanut had put us in a pretty good jam overseas. Our Iranian embasssy had been attacked twice and Desert One was a big ugly mark for SPECOPs. My landlord was German and he always asked how Carter got elected and why the military paid us so little. When our pay raise came up Carter told us to lump it, no pay raise. One guy I worked with qualified for welfare. When Reagon was elected we picked our heads up and walked with that American swagger again.
Ronald Reagan at a fancy dinner with the press, asked Nancy to come forward to the podium. He prompted her 3 times to say something nice to the press as they had written and covered so much about them (the Reagans). She each time just stood there, then stood there and sort of smiled, and at his last request she turned to Ronald and said I'm thinking, I'm thinking!
Of course they all laughed!
I saw a clip of this the other night on Fox News. It was from a White House Correspondents dinner. The camera work was extremely shaky (as if it might have been amateur video, or at least a camera not on a tripod).
We forget that before a competitive cable news market, we, the people, usually didn't get to see events like this. (CNN did premier in the early 80's, didn't it? HHMM) I don't think I've ever seen the clip before, but it was a perfect George Burns/Gracie Allen routine!
