STRANGE INCIDENT IN GETTYSBURG PA YESTERDAY AM- SMALL PLANE CAUSES EVACUATION OF HOTEL AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS IN CENTER OF TOWN
My son called from the area. Yesterday morning, a small plane entered the center of town and circled the "square"- intersection of rt 30 and Business 15- REPEATEDLY
Such alarm was caused that the everyone in the vicinity was evacuated.
After the people came outside- the plane continued to circle.
FBI and Homeland security were said to be involved. The plane was sought in Maryland and PA....with no luck....
Later in the day--NO FURTHER NEWS!
Low-Flying Plane Vanishes
GETTYSBURG, PA-June 16, 2004 — Police and aviation officials have found no trace of a single-engine airplane that circled low over downtown Gettysburg in clouds and fog early yesterday. The sighting prompted a hotel to evacuate its upper floors.
The plane criss-crossed the area for about two hours, flying as low as 150 feet. But police say officials couldn't read its tail number because of poor visibility and couldn't make radio contact.
Gettysburg Hotel manager Phillip Murray says he evacuated the 26 occupied rooms on the top two floors of the six-story building. That after an assistant called him about 5:30 a-m to say the plane was coming uncomfortably close.
Officials sent fire trucks and police cars to Gettysburg Airport, hoping the lights would help the pilot locate the field.
The plane flew off in an unknown direction about 6:30 a-m.

Seems like it disappeared into thin air
Hopefully it was someone who got caught in the soup and was trying to figure out where he/she was. Probably a student or private pilot. At least I hope that's all it was :-)
