Well, I indeed didn't think much of Blair, when he was being Clinton's pal.

But I think Blair saw the light, when Bush showed it to him, and Blair truly recognizes the threat terrorism poses to the civilized world. When the chips were down, Blair showed that we can count on him.

" I am somewhat surprised that Koisumi, Japan's PM, won't attend, though he has demonstrated that he and his country are our friends. "

Nakasone is going to represent Japan . He is Koizumi's superior so to speak , plus Nakasone and Reagan were tight , hence Nakasone and not Koizumi .

And from the number of FRmails I have gotten from people who hate you here, I am sure it is only some small percentage of real numbers that hate you here...you have nack for friendship alright.

Biggest self centered jerk and baby on FR.

On Islam yes, more or less, but he still allow Islamics to sponsor from Britian and gather soldiers of Jihad and send them to Israel and Russia and Yugoslavia. In Russian Daghistan, several of her majisty citizens standing trial now. As for socialism, he is very big and also on homosexuality and abortion and "tolerance". He even boasts that he reads Koran all nights and has one beside his bed.

I thought I read something about an election coming up in Italy. Considering that many, if not most, of the Italians want their soldiers out of Iraq pronto, Mr. Berlusconi indeed may have other issues to deal with which require his presence at home. He's supporting the U.S. at great personal/political risk already.

With Putin just recently shutting down the last free newpaper in Russia, it would be hypocritical to attend the funeral of Ronald Wilson Reagan, a president who represented freedom for those people locked behind the iron curtain and around the world. If he's around 40 years from now, I get the feeling he won't be attending George W. Bush's funeral either.

Really? That is indeed news...so he shut down several hundred newspapers? When did he accomplish such act? Funny, even pro-Oligarch anti-Putin Moscow Times still on net and published. Hmmm, maybe your information is not so good...will you sight it here? As a amtter of fact, I recently watch another episode of Free Cheese, which is program that criticizes the Russian government, on every episode and society too, in general...very witty too. Maybe it is my imagination though.

Canada is really starting to piss me off.

Well, that might not be for long. Liberal Prime Minister Martin is really starting to piss Canadians off. The reason he's scurrying back to Canada is because there's an election in a few weeks, and the most recent polls show the Conservatives in the lead over his Liberals (although the Torries might not get a majority of seats in Parliament). Heck, I think he was even going to skip out on Thursday's G-8 Summit to go back and campaign.

"Uhmm, the Canadian Governor-General is head of state. The PM is just the leader of the party."

Sorry, you are only partially correct, but wrong on substance...The role of the Canadian Governor General is mostly symbolic and ceremonial.

You're both correct -- sort of. For some diplomatic/historical reason I can't figure out, I think chiefs of state will get better seating at President Reagan's funeral than heads of government, as per protocol. Most chiefs of state are merely figureheads these days, unless, like President Bush, are both chiefs of state and heads of government.

I do find it odd that, according to recent press reports, Prime Minister Martin isn't at least sending a member of his cabinet along with the Governor-General. Every country was allowed two invitees. A Canadian Deputy Prime Minister or Foreign Minister attended the funerals for Presidents LBJ and Nixon. Martin seems like a really dumb politician.
