Reading this thread again - I realized only ignorant slime dance on the graves of the dead.
The liberal element in this country are crude and contemptible, and something must be done to exact a change of thought or we are in for even more grave division than now exists.
These people who espouse humanity and caring are a pack of wild dogs.
I know I am typing rhetoric everyone is familiar with, but I am growing more and more concerned about what kind of people these are who seem to have influenced the public as they have.
The news has in fact turned into an extremely dangerous machine.
Perhaps the internet can turn the tides back to civility and rational thought.
I can only pray.
Sure Tom, I'll believe that when I hear the media put their hero JFK's "whole life and his political career in context".
Rather's career was made for being in the right place at the right time in Dallas, November 1963. He wasn't worried about wall to wall coverage of President Kennedy's death, and he's ridden the wave for 41 years.
Ooh, Everybody panic. I'm not kidding. If you don't start panicking right this minute, I'm going to be very cross.
But NOT during the week of his funeral, you blistering, tactless idiot!
Gad! Whata POS.
"Longtime Reagan watcher and Post reporter Lou Cannon said Reagan critics could look forward to new ammunition to use against their nemesis.
In a separate online chat, Cannon said that still-sealed documents on Reagan's presidency will be released in the coming years, noting, "and what is revealed in these documents may again change our opinions."
Note that this guy assumes that what will be released is going to make President Reagan look bad. I guess it would be too much to ask from Mr. Cannon for a little journalistic integrity to wait and actually see what's in the documents before commenting on them.
But judging from the comments of Rather, Brokaw and others, journalistic integrity is an oxymoron.
And I guess "herd journalism" is ok when it's talking down the economy or stretching out the Abu Ghraib story.
No wonder that I, and millions of others, have given up on the nightly network news shows.
It IS a relief from having to watch John Kerry interviews, speeches, political travels and stops, commercials, homages, and tributes paid by all the channels except Fox.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Matthews has been a sniping, petty baby this week. He has used the opportunity of Reagan's death to bash Bush (implying Bush didn't live up to Reagan's legacy), he's interviewed every democratic dinosaur from the 1980s. Chris, much like you these people were on the wrong side of the argument than and now. He only gives Reagan credit for his optimism and "pragmatism". And he's used to funeral to highlight Nancy's criticism of Bush on stem cell research.
On the other hand, Lester Holt and Joe Scarborough have done yeoman's work. They have handled this week with class and dignity. Scarborough's coverage was even better than Fox.
And... The obligatory reference to Nixon.
Easy, bigeasy.
During this period of mourning for Reagan, the times I've switched on msnbc and Matthews has been on, he hasn't been on his usually rant and rage. He's been respectful and composed. In fact, aside from Ted Rall on Hannity and Colmes the other night, I haven't seen anyone really lose it and attack Reagan with vitriolic rhetoric. Then again, I haven't watched much of Matthews. Just more then my usual cursorary look-see. His interview with Tom Selleck was great. Selleck talked about the many private times he shared with Reagan. It was nice.
I haven't seen much of Lester Holt but you're right, Joe Scarborough has done a fine job. His work at Normandy for the D-Day Ceremonies was also top notch.
Btw, I don't doubt Matthews has reverted to his normal ways of being an arrogant arse. Just haven't seen it myself.
TCM has a Reagan festival on for the entire day. Check it out and enjoy.
