hence "pinks & greens"
That's right; and thanks.
I learned this, just this year, from scanning-in color slides taken by my father before and during World War II. He says that the trousers had a fine red thread in the fabric. He also remembered what the red thread count was; but of course, I have forgotten it.
To my eye, it seemed as though the blouse should be blue, but he said no, actually, it's a very, very dark royal green, that in certain light, will look as if it is blue.
The photographs, printed from the slides, look like they were taken yesterday.
Some of the color slides were taken by him and a film camerman who were leading the complete formation of aircraft from Kelly Field, TX, in 1941 --- the camerman was taking stills and filming the formation for the movie, "I Wanted Wings" (1941, William Holden, Veronica Lake, Ray Milland).
The aircraft, when lined up wingtip to wingtip along the Kelly Field Flight Line, measured one mile. (In the late 1980's, I went for a hop in an AT-6, and I am still grinning.)
My father still has the blouse that he wore in the Kodak color slides taken that month.
