I believe Johnson was the last state funeral...in January of 1973. Truman died in December of 72...also a state funeral, if I remember correctly. I'll try to visit whitehouse.gov later to verify...unless someone here beats me there :)

Thanks for reminding me of Johnson and Truman. I believe I remember Truman still being alive when JFK was killed. I remember DeGaulle, Haile Salassie (sp?), Nehru, etc. marching together during the funeral procession.

In reading the website on President Eisenhower's funeral, I was surprised to learn that he had the same coffin that enlisted men received. The cost was $80, and the only difference was that the family had paid an extra $115 for a glass seal. He was dressed in his WWII uniform, "pink" trousers and his famous Ike jacket. His uniform had only the following medals:  Army Distinguished Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Navy Distinguished Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.

I also hadn't realized that the Eisenhower's had lost a son just a little over 3 years of age.
