Reagan family has arrived in Santa Monica to escort President Reagan's body to his library.
I LOVE that picture.
Wonderful...
Yes, true, but before JFK's death, there was no official protocol in how to deal with a current or former President's funeral.
The Reagan family is following the protocol set after JFK's death.
And to add, it will be laughable and sad, IMO, to watch a Military Honor Guard bringing in Clinton's casket, for he will be ever known as the President who "loathed the military".
You probably do have a pretty good inner sense of what's appropriate...
Because the flag at the DNC is at half mast. Some intern went to do upon his death. The DNCer stopped the intern and said to wait until the official word had been given. Once it had... the flag was put at half mast.
Lol, I was thinking the same thing; I remember when I was kid I used to wear a suit and tie just to fly on Delta to go see my grandma. Those were the days..
Man just saluted the casket.
But I recall that one of the news shows mentioned that the boots would, in fact, be President Reagan's own.
People are now starting to go by the casket and pay their respects.
I was thinking earlier that we ALL should wear Reagan red on Friday!!!!
The Democrats are going to have conniptions, because those are minority kids saluting!
That is worthy of a stand-alone "DNC FREEP OPPORTUNITY" thread. I encourage it. I'll be going to the candy store just for black jelly beans within the week so that I can mail them to the DNC.
Come on.... some people down own the latest Paris fashions..
I hear you about Patti REAGAN's attire. I am NOT a clothing freak. But to wear WHITE and and a skirt that goes up to you-know-where when she sits down. What gives?
My daughter is still trying to comprehend the difference between George Washington and George Bush! I think we will definitely go to DC, I'd kick myself if we didn't. Just showed two kids about our kids' age at the viewing in Simi Valley!
Enjoy Phoenix, my folks live in Goodyear and we were just visiting them in May. By coincidence, they are traveling to visit us now and will likely join us at the processional.
I was born after JFK was killed but during the 30th or 35th anniversary there was a TV program that showed extensive footage of the funeral events. I was struck by my emotions when the procession reached the Capitol from the White House and the Congress came out to greet the procession. I still remember the chills and the lump in my throat when they played "Hail to the Chief". Pretty amazing considering that it was an event that occurred so many tears earlier. It's something I felt again during Nixon's funeral. And I left it again today. IMO, there are few more emotional moments than when the band plays "Hail to the Chief" in front of the coffin of a dead president. Very, very moving.
You sure about the DNC.....I almost can't believe that.
We've still got 4 days to go of this! Im already getting emotionally drained..
