Reagan family has arrived in Santa Monica to escort President Reagan's body to his library.
Thanks :) As I'm sure you know, the basics for each of this week's solemn events have been in place since 1981 and updated annually. The tremendous number of details and the necessity for precision timing is mind boggling. The whole world is watching, security is at peak levels, it is neither the time or place for spontaneity. Apparently, all state funerals were planned by the government until JFK's funeral. Jackie Kennedy changed that when she requested and received permission for the family's wishes to be included in the planning.
Never happen!!
CSPAN replaying the arrival ceremony now.
The past ten years have been so hard on the Reagans, and he certainly deserved more good years after leaving DC, but as perverse as it sounds, I'm not sure the family would ever have reconciled if he HADN'T had Alzheimers. That sounds cruel, but it did give them the impetus and the time to get their acts together before the end. And I do hope they stay very close to Nancy now.
Yes, it was in the Rose Garden, I believe, at the Bader-Ginsburg annoucement. All puffed up is a good word for it. Clinton got red in the face, and emoted dramatically something like, How you could ask a question like that after the remakrs she just made blah, blah blah...
now I see what you folks were posting earlier - these very sensitive microphones that were used around the area of the casket picking up even the whispers between the family members, that should have been turned off.
and whose cell phone kept going off with that electronic ringing?
Welcome.:-)
After this break on CNN (16:50 PDT), they plan a segment to focus on Reagan's sense of humor and use of one-liners.
Well that was nice, but too short.
Upon entering the hospital after his assassination attempt he told the doctors I hope you're all republicans... :)
bttt
Very good. Thanks. That might make the difference between my going & not going, because earlier the media reports were starting to sound like not everyone would be able to make it all the way in.
You're right. He had a great heart. He's amazing.
John and Ken on KFI said the wait to get through security and on the bus is currently an hour, then the line moves fairly quick at the Library.
Hope and Reagan, can't get any better than that.
Wow, four of my favorites!!! Thanks for the picture!
I'm just laughing looking at that picture!
That's a great photo!
That looks like another Brat Pack, doesn't it?
