As sad as this is, one must understand the debilitating nature of Alzhiemers. Death is a relief from a non-life. I have personal experience with this. During my mother-in-law's funeral, the pastor said the most beautiful thing that gave us such peace. "Imagine Mary waking up on the shores of heaven, suddenly able to know all things around her."

It truly is the "long good-bye" and the family realizes such relief that their loved one is no longer suffering and will be whole again with our Precious Lord.

#535..I'm with you.

My mom has been going through this for 5 long years.

Bless her heart, she can't even remember what she had for breakfast this morning.

At some level, especially at first, they know their memory is going, and it is very frightening.

We have mom in a 'home' now....and she is quite content and even happy.

The Alzheimers Center in our town has been a great comfort.
