Barney really does look lonely walking by himself down the colonnade. I did think of saying something about Spotty that in the photo's caption, but didn't want to spoil the happy mood that series of photos evokes. (Just a few days after Spotty died, I lost my own belove 14-yr-old Wolfie. I still have his litter sister, Annabelle, and I know she misses her brother.)
I also have seen pets go into mourning for a lost friend. A littermate is probably even harder.
Are you going to get a new friend for Annabelle?
I am sorry about the loss of Wolfie... those little guys tear into your soul, don't they?
I had a friend who died a few years back.. He was 66 & had a mixed breed dog for about 10 years. The man was buried & the dog was given to the man's sister. The first night the dog disappeared. It was "found" a few days later reclined atop & at the grave of the beloved "owner". The dog was never before at gravesite. It was about 15 miles from home of deceased & 15 miles from sis. The dog never ate again & died a few weeks later.
Many animals are truly closer than humans, I am convinced of this. They give so much & demand so very little
