interesting info in that Padilla news conference:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/06/01/comey.padilla.transcript/

Notice the mention of the use of email "drop box" addresses that were given to Padilla when he was sent to the US. That confirms use of those for communications.

Also, note the scope of the attacks that KSM et al were using with Padilla - they didn't think the dirty bomb was feasible, they wanted the gas explosions in apartment buildings to be done. That's a very "low tech" attack.

Fire Put Out in Commerce Dept. Basement

WASHINGTON (AP) - Firefighters were called to the Commerce Department late Monday after a fire erupted in the basement of the building, possibly after an electric transformer exploded.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but smoke filled parts of the building, adjacent to the White House, fire officials said. The building was largely unoccupied and no one was injured.

However, department spokesman Dan Nelson said early Tuesday the building would be closed Tuesday and only essential employees were expected to report for work.

Fire department spokesman Alan Etter said investigators were looking into whether a faulty transformer was to blame for the fire in the building's basement.

There was some concern for fish and other marine life kept in the National Aquarium which is in the basement. Power needed to run pumps for the aquarium had to be shut off, said Etter.

Firemen and aquarium officials were looking for generators to restart the tank pumps.
